My 11 year old is wanting to watch something a little scary, she likes the milder mazes at chessington etc. we have Netflix, prime and Disney. She’s enjoyed Jurassic park and Indiana Jones, loves Harry Potter, zombies, and descendants. I was thinking twighlight.
Language isn’t an issue but nothing too sexual. Any suggestions?

The knowing (Nicolas cage one) and dark skies as well (rated 15 but nothing worse than what’s said at high school etc, no sex scenes or bad violence).

Rivermonsters · 22/01/2022 23:39

World war Z? No sex in that but has violence. However it’s one of the best zombie movies

PinkyU · 22/01/2022 23:47

Coraline, monster house, corpse bride, maybe hunger games though it’s dark and violent dystopian.

I’d certainly not recommend the twilight saga for an 11 year old, it’s very angsty and the theme of poor weak girl needs saved by big sting guy - not great.

Yutes · 22/01/2022 23:53

Twilight isn’t scary. It’s more teen melodrama at the start.
I would say World War Z is too mature for her at the moment too.

Nightbooks is on Netflix.
Signs is on Disney+

War of the Worlds
Stranger Things
The Goonies

OppsUpsSide · 23/01/2022 00:05

Coraline scared the heck out of eldest DD.
The Goonies is a good shout.
Twilight is weird and sexual and just gives odd messages to young females.
The Labyrinth?
Buffy the vampire slayer (movie or series)

Coronawireless · 23/01/2022 00:11

World war z (supervised)
Stranger Things (supervised)
Hunger Games definitely (supervised). The heroine is fantastic for an 11 year old to watch.
2012
Dante’s Peak
Goosebumps
Creepshow
The Day After Tomorrow
Red Notice
(My DC is terrified of Coraline)

Sleepy Hollow

PinkyU · 23/01/2022 00:16

Creeped out on Netflix is good also, some episodes are scarier than others.

Coronawireless · 23/01/2022 00:22

Yes I also meant creeped out, not creepshow.
Great scary short films for tweens.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/01/2022 00:25

Original Ghostbusters?

Coronawireless · 23/01/2022 00:26

A similar tween scary series was Are You Afraid of the Dark, which can be found on YouTube
My DC also loved an old Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense episode called Child’s Play, also on YouTube.

KurtWilde · 23/01/2022 00:32

Scary stories to tell in the dark
Ghostbusters (original)
The woman in black
DD11 loves scary films, she's also a big twilight fan so that's not a bad call either.

PinkyU · 23/01/2022 10:59

Some of the black mirror and inside no.9 may appeal to her also.

Our dd has just turned 12 so we’re now navigating the 12+ genre whilst siphoning our sex, drugs, trafficking(!), language, sexism etc etc. It’s a minefield.

ChikaCherryCola · 01/02/2022 23:27

My 12 year old enjoyed 47 Metres Down about two women who had been cage diving getting trapped at the bottom of the ocean with sharks in the vicinity. Tense with some jump scares. Depends what kind of "scary' you mean, though.

Crackercrazy · 02/02/2022 20:25

Watcher in the woods. It’s an oldie but my sister and I found it creepy when we were that age.
