Ghostbusters: Afterlife

I saw this yesterday at a retro cinema. Felt like I was back in the 80s. I grew up with Ghostbusters so this was a pure nostalgic treat for me and I loved every minute. The girl who plays Egon's granddaughter is going to be a huge star one day.

Also - no spoilers - but I spent a good 10 minutes with tears streaming down my face.

Oh funny I just came to find a thread. Hated it all except for maybe one scene and despised the ending 😂 felt like the Sarah Jane adventures and one of the child actors was so wooden for the amount of screen time devoted to the kids.
Made me want to go watch the original!

Iamthemaid · 21/11/2021 19:27

Thought it was brilliant!!!

Which one? Phoebe? Think shes supposed to be autistic (have asd child)
Noeuf · 21/11/2021 19:32

No she was great although it was a bit heavy handed with the asd stuff. Also had to wait for the two end credits scenes - need wine now…

BusySittingDown · 21/11/2021 19:36

The girl who plays Phoebe has been in loads of things already. She's really good!

She often looks different though...she's blonde IRL and not as nerdy looking. McKenna Grace.

I agree, it was brilliant. I've never seen any of the other Ghostbusters films, they terrified me as a child so they had to be turned off Blush. I need to go and watch them!

8misskitty8 · 21/11/2021 22:56

McKenna grace has been in loads of stuff already. She also sang and co-wrote the song haunted house which played over the end credits.
Think she’s going to have a long career in films.

I really enjoyed the film, liked the wee links they had to the original film.
Hopefully there will be a sequel.

Dillidalli · 21/11/2021 23:01

I really enjoyed it, and the bit with Egon at the end was so lovely and made me cry. The two end credit scenes make me think they’ll be making another film.

This review sums it up for me really well.

Suitable for 9 year old? Not especially sensitive

GailLondon · 26/11/2021 13:29

@Oftenithinkaboutit I went with my 6 and 9 year old and they were totally fine. Nothing gory, a couple of ghosts jumping out but on a par with the original movies I’d say! I think they say sh*t a couple of times so up to you if thats ok?

Garriet · 26/11/2021 13:36

I enjoyed it for what it was - essentially fan service and nostalgia packaged up in a Stranger Things/Goonies style story. However the ending was unbearably twee.

Oftenithinkaboutit · 26/11/2021 15:53

Did they enjoy it?
I’ve booked already though!

maddiemookins16mum · 28/11/2021 18:13

I was a bit meh about going, but really loved it. It was just a great film and nostalgic too. Any who goes needs to wait until the credits end 😊

XenoBitch · 01/12/2021 01:16

I watched it recently. I am a huge Ghostbusters fan. I have a replica proton pack.. that is how sad I am, haha!
I loved this film. Had a massive wobbly lip going on at the end scene.

Was just coming to basically ask this! DD10 wants to see it since she loves Stranger Things and likes (possibly had a crush) on Finn Wolfhard. However, she’s a bit of a scaredy cat and hates anything really spooky. She doesn’t mind if it’s 80s adventure style but she couldn’t cope if it had real haunted house/scary bits. Glad to know it’s not too bad!

Bagelsandbrie · 01/12/2021 08:05

We all absolutely loved this - including Ds aged 9 who has autism and generally finds it hard to follow a story in a film.

McKenna Grace is fantastic. She was amazing as Mrs Keys in the Handmaids Tale too. I almost didn’t recognise her.

Sweetpea84 · 01/12/2021 08:38

My ghostbusters mad 5&10 year old loved it and so did I.

I have not long finished binging Handmaid's Tale, and didn't make the connection. What a wonderful actress McKenna is!

A lot better than I expected. I'm an 80s film nerd and the nostalgia was strong! Was the see through ghost meant to be Slimer though!? Or a different one?

jerometheturnipking · 02/12/2021 18:24

I loved it. So did 6 and 8 year olds who have watched the originals. A couple of shits in it, but overall less objectionable language than the 80s ones. I will say that obviously special effects have come on since the 80s, so DD(6) found some of those a bit scarier/jumpier than the old films, but there's nothing traumatising.

I had moist eyes at the end. Egon forever!

HandlebarLadyTash · 02/12/2021 19:58

Really enjoyed it, wish there had been more ghosts

I was proper crying at the Egon bit... I went with my mum and she said "who is Harold?"
Meltinthemiddle · 28/12/2021 23:15

I watched it today absolutely loved it and may have cried at the end. Made me feel sad that they are getting older as am I 😔 but lovely to see them together.
