Did anyone watch this on BBC4 last night?

I've now seen it 3 times and every time find it more moving than the last.

It is also visually very beautiful.
Such wonderful performances from a small cast - just 4 women really - and the singing at the feast is so powerful & atmospheric.

I watched this at the weekend for the first time. I agree about the performances which were very powerful. I did end up having a bit of a chunter about the "lot" of women in those days! It just amazes me i suppose about how trapped they were by their position in society and by being female. Although actually Heloise was quite independent in her own way I suppose.

The singing was amazing. In fact i'm going to see if I can find a clip now!

Here it is.

I thought given the film title she might paint her as she appears at the end of this scene but she didn't.

But we know she does eventually Fuggly as we see that painting at the beginning of the film, when she is with her art students. One of them asks her what it is called and she says "Portrait of a Lady on Fire"

Oh dear, must have missed that bit.

It's on iPlayer I think for the next 90 days so you can see the beginning if you missed it

Saw it when it came out. Liked it.

The latest film from Celine Schiemma is even better. Petite Maman.

Yes, I loved it! So beautiful and atmospheric.

Brilliant film. Altogether fantastic. The acting, the scenery, the stories, the colours... And no gratuitous sex. Loved it

RampantIvy · 09/12/2021 07:56

Thank you for the heads up. I will watch it this weekend.

Oh such a beautiful film. Watched it and then watched it again immediately. So touching.
