Considering possible cinema choices for this weekend and wondering if anyone has seen the new Dune movie yet?

Is it one of those that it’s a bit pointless seeing if you haven’t read the books? Or can it be enjoyed as a stand alone film? Also, is it generally any good, would anyone recommend it?

@PhlegmDelacour

I'm going against the grain here as I really disliked it. I thought the score was too loud and overly dramatic in non dramatic moments, I thought some of the dialogue was very unclearly spoken / hard to understand and I thought too much time was invested in cinematography and effects and not enough in actual plot or character building. Not a fan of most of the acting either.

Plot was easily to follow though.
Was looking forward to it and very let down.

This exactly. The big problem for me was SOUND! My God it was loud, and I finally had to walk out. Read all the Dune books, & they had to simplify the plot, inevitably. The trouble with these heavily CGI - special effects -action driven films is the books make you use your imagination, the film does not. I think Asimov fans more likely to be disappointed

A good movie. I enjoyed it with my family

I've seen it, bit hard to follow without prior knowledge and very slow moving. It looks good though.

I wouldn't recommend it unless super long movies with minimal story really do it for you.

@PhlegmDelacour I thought the sound was bad because I watched a dodgy download but it sounds like it's as bad in the cinema?

The plot wasn't complicated, I just couldn't hear what was being said! We had to keep stopping it to catch each other up based on what we'd managed to hear of the dialogue.

@CornedBeef451 the music is very loud in the cinema but the voices are quiet. Not a good combination.

I went to see this with my husband. I’d never heard about it before so knew nothing about it. I found the movie pretty dull

I saw it in 4dx. Well I say I saw it, but the screen was so dark. Glad I knew the story.

The film has a long duration, but I did not notice how time flew by. The director did a very good job on the picture, there are excellent locations, costumes, storyline.
