Going to red carpet premieres

Can any member of the public (without special invitation) go to Leicester Square film premieres and get autographs/photos with stars when they are walking down the red carpet? Of course one needs an invitation to actually see the film itself, but as far as standing behind the barriers outside goes, can anyone just queue up and fight their way to the front of the crowd to reach over the barrier for autographs? How early must one go to get a good place to stand for a high chance of getting a selfie with a star?

This question may or may not have been inspired by my not-so-little secret crush on Timothee Chalamet and seeing photos of him attending the Dune premiere on Monday. Grin

I came on to find this out! Hopeful bump!

I love the idea. In going through my family's papers, I found an autograph book that must have been thrust at movie stars in the 1940s. I couldn't believe some of the big names.

Years ago I haooened to be in Leicester Square the same time as a red cracker premiere. It may be different now ( this was 20+ years ago) but people milled around and gawped but no one approached the celebs

I attended the red carpet event for the national tv awards. That was ticketed. Your ticket was checked and you went through security the same as with attending concert. Sucurity walked everyone through to the red carpet area where there were security barriers to stand behind. Im assuming movie premeres work the same way as i dont imagine they would let people so close to stars without checking for weapons ect. We just bought ours online on the website for the tv show, i have no idea where you would get movie ones from but im sure a quick google search would tell you.

Yes. Autograph hunters still exist & they hang out by the red carpet
