I will get this as soon as it's on Sky, I don't fancy the cinema just yet.

SocksAndTheCity · 24/09/2021 19:24

I thought Vera Farmiga was far and away the best thing in it! Maybe she ought to have an origin film.

I got confused with the Ray Liotta chopping and changing, and I thought that Paulie and Silvio were really OTT, but I did think whoever was the voice coach got it bang on. I would have recognised every character with my eyes closed just by listening to them Smile.

I’ve booked for Saturday
Really looking forward to it and I’m currently (by coincidence) on the episode where T takes C to the retirement party of the Cop that killed his Father ….

I hope you enjoy it. And you might have something to say about who killed Dickie.

BeaucoupFish · 28/09/2021 22:51

@grannyjacob

Hmmmm….Well - he did deny all knowledge whilst handcuffed to his stair posts in his Hawaiian shirt……
But T did have a scheming look in his eye when he was spinning C the story …..
Wouldn’t surprise me if T was playing around but we wouldn’t have known if they hadn’t done the film ….
It’s all so convoluted ! 🤔

Been to see it this evening, full of wine and joy, Livia and young Tony stood out for me. Really enjoyed it and tomorrow I shall start watching my newly ordered box set all over again - fifth time but the podcasts have also been recommended to me so happily go into winter with this. Care to join me?Smile

idiotfacelicker · 01/10/2021 23:31

I enjoyed it. It was for fans really. It was light on storyline but geared towards fan-pleasing but I didn't mind that.

Michael Gandfini looked so like his Dad in the eyes at times that it really made you feel he was young Tony.

Chills when the music came in at the end!

idiotfacelicker · 01/10/2021 23:31

Oh and yes, Lucia amazing!

idiotfacelicker · 01/10/2021 23:32

*Livia

Thelikelylass · 01/10/2021 23:39

I think it's Onlyfans! You had to know te characters from the series to get it, agree the end sent chills along the spine. Felt sadness that we won't ever see James Gandolfini again but glad we had him for that brief period...

NinnyNewName · 02/10/2021 12:37

Thanks for this thread. Sopranos and West Wing are the best shows ever made. I am working my way through West Wing Weekly podcasts which I love. Didn't realise there was a Sopranos pod too! Just listened to the first episode (so very happy to note that the interrupting stops Hmm).

Arty Bucco was one of my favourite characters.

I felt so sad when James G died. What a loss.

idiotfacelicker · 02/10/2021 13:49

Ooh Ninnynrename, we Twinnies, West Wing is my absolute favourite also! Currently rewatching from start to finish.

grannyjacob · 02/10/2021 16:52

Totally agree that The Sopranos and The West Wing are the best shows ever. For me The Sopranos comes first because of James G’s performance from start to finish. IMO, no individual actor in The West Wing comes near him.
Both shows had truly wonderful ensemble casts. Again, IMO, The West Wing went downhill a bit once Aaron Sorkin stopped writing and executive producing it at the end of season four.

And re. when “Woke Up This Morning” started playing, I was really surprised when the majority of the audience (not that there were many to start with) got up and left! Sacrilege to say the least 😁

ShockShock everyone in my cinema was there until the bitter end!

EsmaCannonball · 03/10/2021 02:51

I loved it. As a standalone film it was a bit slight compared to something like Goodfellas, but as an extension of the television series it was really enjoyable. Some of the younger versions of the characters did seem like parodies but I chose to see that as the makers being playful and the audience being in on the joke. Vera Farmiga was the best thing in it. The only thing which seemed like a clunky plot device (and I'm trying not to spoiler anything here) is Giuseppina having that conversation with Dickie near the end of the film. She was a savvy woman and would have known saying that was more than a bad idea.

idiotfacelicker · 03/10/2021 09:30

Yes, I wondered at her telling him!

BeaucoupFish · 03/10/2021 10:18

@EsmaCannonball
That was very naive but I knew she would - she is absolutely stunning isn’t she ? reminded me of young Penelope Cruz
I was convinced that she was going to be the Mother of ‘Christuffa’ due to their likeness, the nose and the eyes. Dickie and his wife didn’t have those striking features
I Was sad seeing the grave of Christuffa at the start.

@EsmaCannonball
And they made a point of saying Dickies wife couldn’t have children

The podcasts are brilliant, they have some important guests later on as well. So many insider insights it’s best to try and watch / listen as they go or as near as you can, as you say autumn is sorted 🙂

Can’t say too much as ‘spoilers’ though

My brother has just ruined the entire thing for me by saying Alessandro Nivola could play Matt Hancock in any upcoming Covid movie. Now I can't unsee it.

BeaucoupFish · 03/10/2021 17:00

I have just remembered a classic ‘Chrissism’

Did anyone else catch it ? ‘when Neil Young gave that speech from the Moon’ 😂
Loved that they did that 😂

@EsmaCannonball
that’s funny 😂not sure about that, Alessandro is incredibly handsome reminded me of young Warren Beatty

I enjoyed the film but felt it's definitely one for fans as I'm not sure any of it would make sense if you'd never seen the Sopranos at all. Mind you, maybe you'd relax more and follow the plot. I was so busy trying to work out who was who and did their ages make sense that I'm not sure I really followed it and was left with the feeling that there wasn't really a story at all. I just loved all the clothes, cars and settings!

EachandEveryone · 18/10/2021 14:17

I think I will wait for it to come to Sky
