Hi i have just recently got amazon prime tv and would love to know the best films on it. I love films that are based on a true story, films with a twist or thrillers but no horrors please. Thanks so much

21 Grams
The Killing Fields
Good
Summer of 85
Call me by your name
Dancer in the Dark
Brokeback Mountain
The Mauritanian.

Just off the top of my head, I've watched loads on there and will come back with more if you like?

Strictly Ballroom is on Amazon Prime. Not a true story, no twists and not a thriller, but a damn fine move.

Thank you

Oh how could I forget, Parasite.
It's absolutely amazing, I was blown away.
It's sort of comedy/drama/weirdish with an amazing twist.
Korean and subtitled but trust me on this one, watch ASAP without looking up anything that may spoil it.

I generally choose from the drama category, I don't like Sci Fi or Marvel type things, but I'll give most other films a go.
I'm mainly a film/documentary watcher as opposed to box sets* as I like to chop and change after a couple of hours.

*Cobra Kai being a huge exception obvsGrin

I watched The Birdcatcher this week - it was interesting. (Set in Norway during WW2.)

A Man Called Ove is on Prime - that is very good indeed - if you like subtitled movies.

ISpyCobraKai · 27/08/2021 18:33

I have both of those on my list.
I enjoy subtitled films, I find with a good one you barely notice the subtitles after the first five minutes.

ISpyCobraKai · 27/08/2021 18:39

Also, if you like WW2 films, I can't reccomend Good, enough.
I'd never heard of it, it was a random pick, but saw that Viggo Mortensen is in it and he's a brilliant actor.
Basically it's "When good men do nothing"
Speaking of VM, Eastern Promises is great too.

rosegoldwatcher · 27/08/2021 18:39

Birdcatcher is almost entirely in English - despite most of the cast being Scandinavian.
You will recognize the female lead from The Bridge Series 3 (she who was surrogate for Asa and Freddie.)

rosegoldwatcher · 27/08/2021 18:42

@ISpyCobraKai - Thank you for the recommendation. I have added Good to my watch list. (It has Jason Isaacs - love him!)

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/08/2021 21:03

considering watching Good
it is quite hard to google Grin with that title,

ISpyCobraKai · 28/08/2021 21:39

I watched Blood Diamond earlier, loved it.
Also Skin, the one with Jamie Bell.

colouringindoors · 28/08/2021 22:00

News of the World. Excellent.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 29/08/2021 06:43

Some voices was really good
as was Amelie
The Mauritanian

Parasite is the best, highly recommend

Untouchable. True story about a disabled French billionaire and his unlikely carer. Touching and hilarious.

BikeRunSki · 29/08/2021 07:37

Might not be your taste, but Adult Life Skills.

Staring Jodie Whittaker before she was that well known.

Low budget British made/shot in Yorkshire about a young woman trying to make sense of her life.

BikeRunSki · 29/08/2021 07:37

Britney Runs a Marathon

hopeishere · 29/08/2021 08:58

I've recently seen:
Britany Runs a Marathon
The Souverin
The Tomorrow War
In Bruges

Another vote for Parasite. Must remember to watch A Man Called Ove. I love Fredrik Backman's books.

TheGirlWithGlassFeet · 07/09/2021 22:35

Three billboards is excellent

The ultimate feel good film and probably my favourite ever. We rewatched it a week ago and it was lovely.
ISpyCobraKai · 10/09/2021 18:05

This is a Netflix recc but is based on true life and is excellent, though brutal.
The Bang bang Club.
It features, amongst others, the guy who took this photo.
