It was too scary for me. I was 40 at the time.

supersonicginandtonic · 07/08/2021 19:27

It's absolutely crap. Nothing scary about it at all. Just some sticks and stones. I saw it with friends at not much older. We thought it was funny how bad it was.

AertexShirt · 07/08/2021 19:28

Shock is it really only a 15??!! I watched it aged about 23 and was terrified.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 07/08/2021 19:29

@Figgygal

I wouldn’t That final scene in the basement still comes to mind 20+ years later
Me too! I’m not a horror fan at all, generally can laugh at most of them (went to see Hereditary at the cinema with DH and we were both laughing at the ‘scares’) but BWP really stuck with me and the last scene was haunting.

@HavelockVetinari

The thing that scared me most as a tween was the X-Files Eugene Victor Tombs episode. I was terrified for years!
God same here, terrifying!!

I found Blair witch very frightening too - I'm not a horror fan at all!

Twillow · 07/08/2021 19:38

Yes. Scared me to death even though I knew it was not what it seemed. If you do please please explain that the technique of video camera is being used deliberately for effect and that it is absolute fiction.

Budapestdreams · 07/08/2021 19:45

Too scary. Not necessarily while watching it, but it gets to you over the following days and weeks.

Budapestdreams · 07/08/2021 19:47

You would probably be ok with 12 certificate films at that age eg hunger games, avengers.

WinterCarlisle · 07/08/2021 19:52

YES

iklboo · 07/08/2021 19:56

I'm with @FionnulaTheCooler - it was about as scary as Andy Pandy for me. But probably would be for an 11 year old.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 07/08/2021 20:25

Yes!!! It's to scary for many adults too

Yes, this!!!!

I was an avid watcher of The X-Files when I was a teenager, but could never rewatch the Tombs episodes - seriously, every now and then the character pops into my mind and it still makes me shudder...

I was considering rewatching X-Files as an adult, but I genuinely think I'd be more scared now as an adult, especially of some of the 'monster of the week' episodes...I can't watch horror at all!

For the above reason, I've never watched The Blair Witch Project, and I'm glad - I don't like psychological scares in particular, they're worse than blood and gore to me (and I don't like that either - what can I say, I'm a wuss!)

adeleh · 07/08/2021 20:30

YES. Horrible, horrible film. But even if an 11-yr—old liked horror, I’d say it would be too disturbing.

Naimee87 · 07/08/2021 20:31

Please do NOT let your child watch this, that's a ludicrous idea!

DwangelaForever · 07/08/2021 20:31

I watched it at that age and read the books which were aimed at that age group. Honestly it's just fear nothing too gory or graphic happens.

EUGENE VICTOR TOMBS has traumatised me for my entire life. I accidentally saw it when I was like 8 😭😭😭
IggyAce · 07/08/2021 20:34

Definitely, I love horror movies but this left me feeling disturbed for a few days. No other horror movie has had that effect on me.

Potatoy · 07/08/2021 20:36

It's too scary for me and I'm a grown adult

Snoopbeef · 07/08/2021 20:38

Ok we watched it. She was gripped but it finished and she said she wasn't that scared. Like someone said - you know your child. Let's hope the Cornish weather improves or we'll be on the Exorcist tomorrow.

People need to be cautious with assuming that because a child does not show fear that they are not finding it hard to process. I think showing this sort of film to a child is unfair, as you can not undo it if it was the wrong choice.

I just never get the rush from some parents to do this.

lannistunut · 07/08/2021 20:41

And children who grow up in families where the parents want to show them these films are socialised to say they are not scared.

BeeDavis · 07/08/2021 20:53

Ive been watching horror films since before that age, I love them though and not easily scared 🤷🏻‍♀️

xsquared · 07/08/2021 22:20

I don't know because the juddery motion made me feel queasy so I shut my eyes and I fell asleep in the cinema. When I opened my eyes, I felt a strong urge to be sick and rushed myself to the ladies' to do so. Missed most of it!

Certainly wouldn't recommend it if your child gets motion sickness!

PaddingtonsHat · 07/08/2021 22:22

It’s terrifying if you think you’ve gone to see a documentary Blush

Rivermonsters · 08/08/2021 21:59

@Naimee87 it’s not that bad of a movie, I watched similar things at that age
