The thing that scared me most as a tween was the X-Files Eugene Victor Tombs episode. I was terrified for years!

lannistunut · 07/08/2021 18:43

Yes, too scary.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 07/08/2021 18:44

@SpindleWhorl and stop being inflammatory? It was fairly obvious to a person of mediocre intelligence what was meant by my post...

OldTinHat · 07/08/2021 18:44

I'm going to buck the trend here and say it's fine. There's no violence or masses of awful language. No sex. No drugs. Coronation Street is more horrifying! I adore horror films and 'taught' my sons how to watch them at about the age of your DC. The rules when they're young are to watch with all the lights on and to know that when everything on screen goes a bit quiet that there will be a BOO!! moment right after so brace yourself! And it's fun betting on when the BOO!! will happen! Always light hearted! But definitely no slasher type films at that age, Blair is easy going. I found Sixth Sense more creepy!

I watched Jungle Cruise with some friends this week, they're all aged 55 to 65. They spent the whole film leaping in the air! It's all relative!

@PandoraP

I am easily scared but thought Blair Witch was as scary as the Tellytubbies
Those furry fuckers are frightening!
jellybe · 07/08/2021 18:53

Yes! Bloody hell it still scares me.

ToffeeForEveryone · 07/08/2021 18:56

Yes! Why are you even considering this. Do you like the idea of months of disturbed sleep, or is it not your child?

Susannahmoody · 07/08/2021 18:57

Yes!

Shelddd · 07/08/2021 18:58

No, are you kidding lol.

Ducksurprise · 07/08/2021 18:59

I find today's tweens and teens find the stuff that scared us funny. What is allowed now as a 12a is much worse. On that thought 80s 18 cert films are positively family friendly

Pastrydame · 07/08/2021 19:02

I think psychological stuff stays with you longer than gore does, so on that basis I'd say no.
I check everything I'm unsure about on common sense media.

Figgygal · 07/08/2021 19:04

I wouldn’t
That final scene in the basement still comes to mind 20+ years later

RoseAndRose · 07/08/2021 19:04

It's a 15 certificate.

I wouldn't let an 11yo watch it even a robust one who was begging to

CorvusPurpureus · 07/08/2021 19:09

Entirely depends on the kid.

17yo ds loathes horror. I got him to download Perfume for me the other day, as I'm teaching the novel next year. Suggested we could watch it together , he noped the absolute fuck out of that - I wouldn't even class it as horror. Oddly, he loves The Shining after watching a documentary about it. Deconstructing & analysing horror films is fine apparently, but watching them 'cold' is frightening & he hates it.

15yo dd1 adores scary stuff. She'd love Blair Witch. In fact, good suggestion - we have a mother & daughter creepy film night occasionally, & it's years since I watched it. We spent a few cheery months in lockdown ripping the piss out of The Walking Dead together.

13yo dd2 - not a chance. She'd get bored long before she got creeped out, though.

I would say that with Blair Witch, either it scares you silly or you don't get it, though. Not a great choice either for a horror hater or a teen who doesn't already enjoy horror.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 07/08/2021 19:10

It's crap. The whole film is boring as hell. Final destination films are better

YoungWerther · 07/08/2021 19:12

Are you kidding?!

Have a game of cards ffs.

Silvergreen · 07/08/2021 19:13

They'll be either terrified or bored. The creeping sense of dread doesn't really chime with everybody. It really did for me! I think a lot of kids need something more obvious to be scared.

Foxhasbigsocks · 07/08/2021 19:14

Not suitable for 11

thenightsky · 07/08/2021 19:14

agree with the above. My teen was 13 or 14 I think when she begged me to take her to see it even though it was a 16 rating.

God we were both bored witless. Then the yawn ending... she turned to me and said 'well that was rubbish'.

dworky · 07/08/2021 19:16

Yes

marbleborough · 07/08/2021 19:18

Too scary for a 43 year old to watch, so definitely too scary for an 11 year old!

Oooooh scary

Baggingarea · 07/08/2021 19:23

It's fine until the last scene. That shit me up. And I was an adult.

whatisheupto · 07/08/2021 19:26

Jesus! in what way would you think it was OK to let your 11 year old watch that??? Please don't.... unless you want to terrify them for weeks and leave them with fearful memories they will remember forever.

Dreamstate · 07/08/2021 19:26

Why don't you just follow the film ratings then you don't need to ask! Simple really
