I'd like to take ds1 (7 - but rather eccentric and bookish), I think it should be right up his street.

Have you seen it? Am I right in assuming that ds2 (5) would be bored?

I went to see it yesterday with dd age 7 and she was able to concentrate all through. The 4 boys in it have a lot of screen time so your 5 year old might be ok. Word of warning, be prepared for the sad ending.
ps. I thought Jonny Depp was marvellous.

Oh thanks Cam.

Oh No! sad ending? I don't think we do sad endings. Ds2 certainly doesn't (sobbed his heart out at Jungle Book 2 video this afternoon and that does have a happy ending).

How sad is the sad ending?

Very sad, but the kind of sad that affected the adults in the audience far more than the children. My dh cried (but then he's always completely soppy about films) but dd just said "It was sad". The sad ending is perfectly in context but I don't want to give it away if you're going to see it.

Thanks Cam,

I guess I'd better not take ds2 then. He's very sensitive, and does pick up on emotional stuff. He was devastated by the start of Finding Nemo - all the other children in the cinema didn't seem to give a hoot about mummy clown fish and all the babies/eggs being eaten! He was in floods of tears, and remained so for most of the film

Ds1 kind of appreciates the sad bits and enjoys being sad iyswim. Ds2 doesn't.

Saw this tonight and enjoyed it very much, lovely to look at and I don't just mean Johnny Depp! I wouldn't think it was suitable for children at all though, too grown up and I think they'd just find it boring and sad.

Thanks Davros: I'll go and see it without kids I think, then maybe take ds1 at a later date if I think he could cope with it.
