Help! Need a good "blockbuster" style film

I am an awkward sod at the best of times.

Having a rough week for various reasons.

Need good - what used to be called - a blockbuster, a proper well funded, well made, fun but not necessarily comedy films to watch of a weekend.

I keep going back to old favourites and frankly I'm bloody boring myself now!

I don't like comedy much, I definitely don't like gross out or slapstick or juvenile crap

I don't want anything depressing or even cathartic

Something maybe a good meaty action/thriller, or a feel good, something to lift my spirits? Put me in a weekend/summer mood?

Really hard to explain but I scroll through lists on Netflix, prime, Disney and nothing I haven't seen already really fits the bill

As I said - annoying myself at this point!

Can you help?

Ahh rousette how tastes differ!

I saw heat at the cinema too...and HATED it!

Sorry

On paper should have been a favourite, huge fan of both leads and the director/writer and the supporting cast, love the genre/style of film. Was really looking forward to seeing it

Could not get into it at all.

Armageddon every time. Anything with Bruce Willis in general. Or Will Smith.

(oh wait, were you hoping for films less than 20 years old?!)

The two new Jumanji films are pretty good.

Not seen skyscraper but love a cheesy disaster movie and I must admit I like the rock - he's a one note actor but he plays it pretty well

Mission impossible are more I can lip sync the scripts!

Hot fuzz and Shawn of the dead are fun but I feel the yanks do blockbuster better generally speaking

Blues brothers is ace! The original is the best though

This might be the most controversial thing I've ever written on mumsnet, but I bloody LOVE Waterworld with Kevin Costner. There, I've said it.

Honestly if you haven’t seen Skyscraper it is the perfect choice for your requirements.

Roussette · 18/06/2021 20:38

Graphista we're all different! I just love that type of film it's my 'thing'!

Yutes · 24/06/2021 12:25

The Old Guard. It’s on Netflix

Another vote for Skyscraper, perfect for good escapist nonsense.

I accidentally watched ' London Has Fallen' the other night. Another decent series of action flicks (Olympus, London, Angel), if you can get past the 'America saves the world' schtick.
