please settle an argument for me, my brother swears he can remember going to the cinema to watch ET with our cousin, who preceded to sob her heart out at the end of the film! Problem is, we were born in 81 and 80 prospectively so surely were too young to go to the cinema in its release of 82?

SO either my brother has imagined the memory or the film came out later than that

I imagine he has mixed up two memories into one.

ET was released into cinemas in 1982 and received its' network premiere on BBC1 during Xmas 1992

I def went to see it in the cinema about 1984. Our cinema didn’t show films as they were released though, it took about 2/3 years for them to reach the wilds of Wales!

I was a kid in the '80s and older films would sometimes be re-shown in the summer holidays - I saw Mary Poppins at the cinema - so he may well be remembering it from a few years later.

I saw it in the cinema in 82 or 83 when I was 6 or 7. Remember though that before everyone had a vhs cinemas would repeat big films like that each school holidays.

I definitely saw it in the cinema in the mid to late 80s

I definitely saw this in the cinema around 1986!

It was rereleased into cinemas about 85. The queues were so big the first time lots of people didn't get to see it.

I saw Bambi in the cinema in around 1970. Re-release, obviously! I embarrassed my brother by weeping copiously when B's mother met her end. Grin

So maybe we did see it in cinema but later on in 80s! Thanks all. I will tell him I’m right though!
