Because it's Valentine's Day and I'm happily single, I've got a date with the DVD player and Picnic at Hanging Rock!
Love it. Love the soundtrack. Anyone else?

OP thanks so much for the link. It's a really mesmerising film.

I am intrigued at the thought of spooky goings on there afterwards. As though it's created its own mythology.

"The face of a Bottecelli angel" ❤️

If you like the cinematography in Picnic, try Days of Heaven directed by Terence Malick (hope I’ve got spelling right).

I watched this many times in my teens. Elegiac, interesting storyline and a young Sam Shepherd stars 💖

Ooh ok! I'll look it up. Thanks!

One of my favourite films! So atmospheric, and I find it quite creepy too. The classical music used is my all-time favourite classical piece I think (love the original music too).

I've also been to Woodend and Hanging Rock, as my mum and step-dad lived in Victoria, and we had a day-trip out there on one of my visits. We went for a climb on the rock, but nothing remotely spooky happened and nobody disappeared!

Oh I love this film. I first saw it when I was 19 and at art school, during a hot (for Glasgow) summer. Oh it gives me such pangs of... I don’t know, nostalgia? Longing? The intro where you hear the sounds of the insects, then Miranda’s ‘what we see’ narration, then the panpipes. Utterly beautiful. It’s perfect.

I live in Aus and have been there, found it eerie but possibly because that was my expectation rather than reality? I found it too quite, usually Aust bush has a bit of wildlife noise but it seemed to be missing along with lack of bird life. Rationally though, it was high summer when I went and wildlife probably not out and about unless cooler early morn?

I also live the movie (1975 version). The recent miniseries was ok but couldn’t compete with the original movie.
