We just saw the new movie Wolfwalkers. It's an amazing animated film made by the Irish studio Cartoon Saloon, which also made Song of the Sea and Secret of Kells. Wolfwalkers has everything I could ask for -- a strong platonic friendship (some might even read it as a budding lesbian romance) developing between two girls from VERY different worlds ("enemies" to "lovers" with heavy platonic "flirting" and sarcasm), taking life risks for each other, forming a "chosen family", etc. Also strong themes of civilisation/confinement vs nature/freedom and parent-child relationships, with an interesting backdrop of Irish history. This is an absolute must-watch this holiday season!
