Anyone seen this on prime yet?

Wasn’t quite sure what to make of it!

I think that it treads (and oversteps on many occasions) a very fine line between satire and offensiveness. I feel slightly dirty for having watched it and having laughed so hard in parts.
What did you think of it?

nosswith · 30/10/2020 11:26

I'll give it a miss. I understand I think what Sacha Baron Cohen is trying to expose with the satire, but the joke wears thin after a while.

Astella22 · 30/10/2020 11:43

I liked it, Sacha’s usual style comedy. I do think some of the jokes pushed boundaries but then that comedy for you. I like that his style doesn’t conform to the norm Hollywood template that other comedy films have these days, it’s refreshing to have something a bit different. It’s definitely not for everyone but I laughed allot.

I didn't think it was consistently funny but had plenty of good moments. I really admired the bravery of both Sacha Baron Cohen and the actor playing his daughter; they took a lot of risks with some of their stunts.

The people they filmed showed their real natures whether that was bigoted (eg the woman happy to ice an antisemitic message on the cake or the people attending the Trump open air rally) or absolutely lovely (the 2 old Jewish ladies and the babysitter).

I watched the first part of it because a couple of friends said they thought it might be good. I cringed so hard, the humour felt so dated and it just was awful. I stopped it less than half way through, it was too painful.

KylieKangaroo · 24/11/2020 22:45

I haven't seen it yet but I am amazed that there are still people in the US who haven't heard of him after the first film? I wonder if they have to film in a few locations where people don't know who he is.

HighHeelBoots · 24/11/2020 22:46

H and adult DS laughed hysterically
I was a bit sniffy about it but couldn't help laugh at the period dance and the women trying to be supportive /take it all in their stride

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/12/2020 14:34

I loved it. It is certainly cringe making. The Bulgarian actress who plays his daughter is excellent.

I'll watch it later :)
