I have just rewatched LOA with my American husband. Well, we got as far as the intermission then gave up.
DH said “I guess it was made to make Brits feel better about themselves” and I think he hit the nail on the head.

Maybe the cinematography was revolutionary in its time but nowadays we are spoilt?

I was expecting to be blown away because I loved rewatching Dr Zhivago recently.....

Is it just me?

Yes fair enough.
But I’ve been on a “run” of great classics that seemed fresher than stuff from the90s (All About Eve. Imitation of Life). so I guess expectations were high.

Watched it recently for the first time was extremely disappointed. There are a lot of very old films that still have the Wow factor but that is not one of them, for me at least.

I loved that film.

I think youve got to stick with Hitchcock, or things like who killed baby Jane, or now, voyager - anything about the brits will be cringe making.
