We have 4 DC, 12, 13, 14 & 16. Every week we watch a movie all together and take it in turns to chose. I always like to chose one with positive messages about values etc... But given the spread of their ages it's at balancing act between too twee and too inappropriate! Would welcome suggestions please!

I haven't seen all of these, but this is a list I compiled and we are working our way through it. (Except my Dd11 & Dd14 have just declared they don't want to see any more films made in the 90's or earlier!!) However they might be a bit 'young' for your older children.

The Italian Job ( the original 1969 version with Michael Caine , not the remake ).

jessstan1 · 06/10/2020 04:05

@Dairyfine

The Italian Job ( the original 1969 version with Michael Caine , not the remake ).
That was a favourite of my son; he inherited his love for that film from his dad who saw it umpteen times.

I'd have thought most youngsters would choose what they want to watch. Going back in time, mine liked Bill and Ted and Wayne's World but that was many years back.

Rainbowqueeen · 06/10/2020 04:10

Hunt for the wilder people

Dairyfine · 06/10/2020 04:23

^ ^ Really Daisyannemaye?

You recommend an R18 film that's 'erotic drama' and only gets 3.3/10 on IMDB for teens?

SquirrelMountain · 23/10/2020 21:55

Squirrel Mountain 'Iggy To The Rescue'

suitable for everyone.
EugenesAxe · 23/10/2020 22:07

So many great suggestions... I absolutely love Little Miss Sunshine (strong swearing though) and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Stardust also popped into my mind when I read your OP.

I will add in (sorry if I missed them being said):

Napoleon Dynamite
The Scarlet Pimpernel (classic, slightly cheesy but awesome 😂)
Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources
Pretty in Pink
Breakfast Club
The Full Monty
Dante's Peak

Ashard20 · 23/10/2020 22:45

Brassed Off (Deals with mining issues in the 90's)
Life is Beautiful - about the holocaust but so original and different
The Bourne Identity
Meet the Fockers
Ferris Bueller is one of our all time favourites
Very dark and depressing but how about Kes - a Kestral for a Knave?
Signs
Walk the LIne

cariadlet · 30/10/2020 15:37

Another vote for Hunt for the Wilderpeople. I'd also add Fighting with my Family.

I managed to please dp and teen dd with both of those.

boys3 · 30/10/2020 20:34

another vote for Fighting with my Family, and if you like the Rock San Andreas is fun, and the Jumanji remake not the complete car crash I feared it might be.

Back to the Future (film 1, then 3, I'd skip straight past 2)

Pride is excellent

My lot (boys obviously) are / were big LOTR and Hobbit fans. Not my cup of tea, but I did find myself strangely drawn to some of the marvel films, especially their two Spiderman efforts.
