Any suggestions for what to watch next for a huge Hamilton fan?

My daughter is secondary school age and always keen on history anyway but this has got her hooked.

What to watch next that holds the same theatre wow with historical info too?

Thank you!

You can’t watch it but listen to Six the Musical. It’s about Henry VIII’s wives and it’s fabulous.

Definitely listen to six the musical.

Miss saigon is one of my all time faves.

YY to Six - brilliant lyrics and music!

Miss Saigon is my all time fave - there’s a brilliant 25th Anniversary filmed version that was at the cinema that you can get on dvd

It’s not historical but Wicked is generally a good shout for teenagers!

Not sure if it would be your thing but I first saw Jesus Christ Superstar when I was 13 and loved it, and still love it now (I’m not religious and I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea) but the film adaptation is now on Netflix!

I’m also a huge Hamilton fan Grin

You can easily fall down the YouTube rabbit hole with lots of Hamilton-related documentaries and interviews about the creative process.
We've also recently enjoyed a 4 part documentary about George Washington on Sky, for a decent American history lesson.

As for musicals, as a teen my faves were Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Phantom of the Opera and Les Miz. I never really liked Miss Saigon....sorry :(

Oh, and how can I forget, if your daughter is fond of Lin Manuel Miranda's musical style, In The Heights is brilliant too. There's a film version coming out next summer.

And Rent and Wicked are great too. I loooove most musicals... 🥺

cheesybeans1234 · 04/08/2020 08:42

Lots of brilliant suggestions thank you. Evita is an interesting one that I wouldn't have thought of but I enjoyed it when it came out. Les mis was on my list to try too but I forgot to search it out.

Falling down a rabbit hole perfectly describes where she is with the Lin Manuel love but it's been positive, better than the random tic tok videos! Lots of interesting history facts being picked up along the way. We can't wait for In The Heights. Thanks!

Listen to Hades Town!

notmyyacht · 20/10/2020 14:12

Newsies: The Broadway Musical on Disney+
RENT: Filmed live on Broadway (I don't think it's streaming anywhere but as of last week they have the full video on youtube.)

Also, there's a bunch of other pro-shot content on BroadwayHD. (Falsettos, Kinky Boots, Billy Elliott, Carousel etc.) You can get a one week free trial, and after that's $9 a month.

@pepsicolagirl

Listen to Hades Town!
^ THIS!!!

Six is fun, In The Heights is good, Hadestown is brilliant.

And if you’d like recent history for her, how about the true story of Come From Away - 9/11 grounding 38 planes full of 7000 people in a tiny Newfoundland toe in the middle of nowhere.

notmyyacht · 20/10/2020 16:52

Oh, and I forgot to mention the Bandstand pro-shot ... I know It's not streaming anywhere and I don't think it's on youtube (right now anyway) but you can probably find it somewhere to download if you look hard enough.
