I'm a huge Austen fan, and love most of the adaptations, but is Emma (2019) worth a watch?

I mean it's got to be better than the god awful Gwyneth Paltrow film (WTF was going on with Ewan McGregors hair?!) but a few years ago the BBC did an excellent mini series with Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller - would it top that?

What's put me off watching it is I think the characters look far too modern. Emma has blonde hair and black microbladed eyebrows. And Mr Elton is supposed to be handsome but he's played by the bloke who plays Charles in the Crown Confused

I loved it but I'm not a huge Austen fan so probably missed loads.

I found it bright and breezy, loved the use of yellow, it made me laugh and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I enjoyed it - Have a bit of a problem with film adaptation of novels because they have to edit so much and you lose so much nuance but this was light and fun. The interiors and costumes were glorious. Miranda Hart as Miss Bates was well cast. Bill Nighy wasn't querelous (urk - spelling?)enough as Mr Woodhouse. The Frank Churchill/ Jane Fairfax story was almost ignored and the Harriet Smith storyline was also greatly reduced - BUT Grin it was beautiful to look at entertaining.
