The Outsiders
-Most American kids have to read the book at school & watch the film and most will tear up when you say, "Stay Gold, Pony Boy"
Taps
-Gorgeous and young Tim Hutton, Sean Penn, Tom Cruise and the great George C Scott
Ordinary People
-Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland and Timothy Hutton in an Oscar winning performance at age 20. It's about the disintegration of a family after a death. It's heavy but wonderful.
Less Than Zero
-Drugs, rich kids and Robert Downey Jr--yum
Better Off Dead
-It is totally silly but a cult classic. "Where's my $2?"
Coal Miner's Daughter
-Sissy Spacek as Loretta Lynn. I was never a fan of country music or Loretta but this totally changed my mind. Interesting story.
Airplane!
-Silly and fun. "Don't call me Shirley"
American Werewolf in London
-Classic
Arthur
-Dudley Moore's infectious laugh is totally worth the time to watch it.
History of the World, Part 1
-Mel Brooks and total silliness
Falling in Love
-De Niro and Meryl Streep--sigh
Terms of Endearment
-Filmed in my current city and I still cry at the end
Scarface
-Hell yeah!
Silkwood
-Cher & Streep in a true life drama about a whistleblower in a nuclear factory
Red Dawn
-Wolverines!
Police Academy Films
-My husband made me add this
Cousins
-Isabella Rossellini is wonderful in this but I do have a slight crush on her
Poltergeist
-It still creeps me out
Working Girl
-Everyone has huge hair in this! I love the 80's
84 Charing Cross Road
-Endearing film with Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft that spans years and across the ocean.
Stand and Deliver
-Edward James Olmos earned an Oscar for his portrayal of Jamie Escalante, a math teacher who challenges his students in East L.A. to take the Advanced Placement Calculus test despite their deprived backgrounds and family problems. Wonderful film.
Jewel of the Nile & Romancing the Stone
-husband had me add these since he has a Kathleen Turner fixation. I'll allow it because she was indeed beautiful and the movies were great fun and Billy Ocean is a great singer
The 80's had great films.
