Is irritating. Why would meg Ryan fall for the man who put her out of business in her much lived family business?

Because he had qualities she admired and was initially attracted to him before she knew who he was. It's not as if he opened his latest store with the sole intention of putting her out of business. She had to close because she couldn't compete with him on price (just as Fox would probably be out of business today because of Amazon). She's a sensible woman; deep down she knows that however hard it was for her there's little either of them could have done about what happened to her shop.

Just watching it on Netflix, and waking up this thread to say how truly dreadful it is.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 09/05/2020 22:15

It's awful isn't it. When at the end she says "I hoped it was you" Confused really Meg?

KimchiLaLa · 09/05/2020 22:26

I can't hear a word against a Tom hanks film

GlummyMcGlummerson · 09/05/2020 22:27

Not even The Terminal?!

Emus · 09/05/2020 22:39

It's one of my favourite films! Smile❤️

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 09/05/2020 22:51

When I watched it back in the day I thought it very unrealistic that she was using a laptop to send email without an Ethernet cable to be seen! As if!

😀😆

I dunno. He’s fabulously wealthy, has a boat, a fluffy dog and clearly a decent internet connection. Surely in 90’s New York he was quite a catch?

Orangecake123 · 19/05/2020 19:22

It's my favourite movie. I watch it every year.

MusicToMyEars800 · 27/06/2020 21:06

I watched it properly for the first time today.
I get why the plot is annoying in that she’s falls for him, even though he forced her family business to
Close, but in saying that I’m a sucker for rom
Coms and absolutely loved it BlushGrin

Nope, nope, nope. This is my official cheer up film and I won't hear a word against it.
