Just watching die hard (for about the millionth time)

He's carrying a gun as a passenger on the plane no bother - at what point was this outlawed? May need USA mners help with that one.

When he goes to the reception in the plaza the guy has him look holly up on the touch screen (how whizzy modern did that seem then?!) BUT he then goes on to say they're the last ones in the building and directs him - if they're the only ones in the building why didn't he say so at the beginning?

That's just to start things off I'm sure I'll think of more over the course of the thread and as I watch more films over festive period.

What are yours?

Back to the Future III - why does Marty McFly's Great-Great-Grandmother 'Mrs McFly' look exactly like his mum, when his mum didn't marry into the McFly family until the 1950s?

VanyaHargreeves · 24/12/2019 12:21

The fact that no-one leaves or joins the choir in Pitch Perfect, bar 3 people, over 3 films, so that by the time the main character throughout is graduating loads of the others who were already there when she joined should've been long gone but they are still in the choir. Then they all graduate at once leaving the choir with one member. ConfusedGrin

Graphista · 24/12/2019 17:48

@LonginesPrime I've only watched sphere once it was ok no great shakes but yea that seems a bad plot hole

@VanyaHargreeves I'm a huge Star Wars fan but theres loads of gaps in the plots lucky you to have seen the new one don't know when I'll get chance I haven't seen the other films you mention.

@SpaghettiSharon Exactly my point - the imperial army are shite even at basics so HOW do they get to be so powerful? They must be tories

@Ifeelinclined Can't wait to hear what he says

@NannaNoodleman the wealth of that family is often discussed they must be bankers or something

@IlsSortLaPlupartAuNuitMostly I haven't seen matrix movies - told I'd like them but have never got around to it. But I've also heard/read much discussion of plot holes in them

@ScreamingValalalalahLalalalah Excellent point about the ancestral grandmother she's not Mcfly by blood! (We hope!)

@VanyaHargreeves I hadn't even thought of that re pitch perfect but of course you're right some should naturally leave due to graduating...

Unless they all were freshman in the first one because the rest left due to the disastrous vomiting incident?

Graphista · 24/12/2019 17:49

I have no idea what happened there with the bold thing!

The Fifth Element, which is my favourite film, when the blue opera singer dies ,Bruce Willis has to pull the stones out of her stomach. But how was the blue alien planning on handing over the stones if she hasn't been conveniently shot by the bad guys.

The Maze Runners / Divergent / nearly every dystopian youth movie - I always feel that the shady Government in these movies put a stupid amount of money, energy and science into maintaining their conspiracy and would probably have lasted longer in power if they just hadn't bothered and stuck to more conventional corruption.

MrsGrindah · 24/12/2019 18:12

Gravity..Sandra Bullock and George Clooney....apparently you can’t just point yourself in one direction and sort of doggy paddle your way through space.....Never been into, space myself but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work like that. Actually groaned out loud in the cinema “ I paid good money for this!”

MrsGrindah · 24/12/2019 18:12

Can just point yourself....that should say

SpaghettiSharon · 24/12/2019 18:16

@Graphista GrinGrinGrin

The Dark Side are definitely Tories - evil to the core!

VanyaHargreeves · 24/12/2019 18:18

Nope @Graphista the vomiting one and her friend are still in it

sproutsgalore · 24/12/2019 18:22

We watched The BFG then on tv the other day. Proper lol when the Queen phones up 'Boris' Grin (Supposed to be the Russian Boris Yeltsin obvs) but how appropriate now.

Graphista · 24/12/2019 18:26

The fifth element I love but haven't watched for years I will look out for that plot hole next time

Interesting point on the dystopian movies (which I am also a fan of) yea old fashioned corruption methods sadly work just as well

Gravity - I refuse to watch on the basis that tess geritsen was robbed blind! Shameful what happened there.

The vomiting one does graduate though but yes her friend should have left at same point surely?

coatlessinspokane · 24/12/2019 18:28

The Sixth Sense.

There’s no way he would have noticed that NO ONE had interacted with him all year.

VanyaHargreeves · 24/12/2019 18:29

Yeah the vomiting one is one of the 3

Anna Kendrick Joins
Hallee Steinfeld Joins
Vomiter Leaves
Everyone but Hallee Graduates together

GlitchStitch · 24/12/2019 18:29

Tangled- if you kidnapped a child would you really tell them when their real birthday is? Plus how hard did they look for her, that they missed a massive tower in their kingdom that Flynn is able to ride to and find really quickly at the end of the film.

ohwheniknow · 24/12/2019 18:31

Pitch perfect... Film one there are only two remaining members at start of new year, all the others are new recruits that year hence graduating together in film two.

Film two shows one of those original two members from film one has graduated and the other says she failed her exams and repeated her final year twice or something. And they're only allowed to take in the one new recruit that year because she's a legacy and they've been banned from recruiting, but she's a loophole. Or something.

Film three, all the members from film one have graduated, new recruit from film two is still at uni and has recruited others.

Simple. why do I know all this?

ohwheniknow · 24/12/2019 18:33

Gravity - I refuse to watch on the basis that tess geritsen was robbed blind!

How so?

doadeer · 24/12/2019 18:34

I don't understand in Harry Potter when Sirius says he always used to go and stay with the Potters because he hated his horrid family, but then no member of the family survives.... And only petunia from his mums side... There's not a single other family member on either side? 😒

doadeer · 24/12/2019 18:39

My son has been watching beauty and the beast LOADS so I know every line. There is a major plot flaw.

Lumiere and Co say they have been "rusting" in this state for 10 years.

We are told the rose will bloom till his 21st birthday.

So was he 11 when he was deemed selfish and unkind and no love in his heart into a beast?! Harsh

Or has time frozen?

This is NOT explained.

VanyaHargreeves · 24/12/2019 18:39

Gravity is apparently as good as plagiarised from a Tess Gerritsen story and she did not receive credit.

VanyaHargreeves · 24/12/2019 18:43

Well presumably @doadeer the Potters were good guys and so like/unlike the Longbottom parents were attacked by Voldemort and all died.

I never quite understood why he kept having to go back to the Dursleys every summer instead of splitting his summertime between many interested caring adults.

AnnieJ1985 · 24/12/2019 18:45

Also Home Alone...

When the old man saves Kevin and lifts him off the hook in the neighbours kitchen, he says let's get you home... But doesn't think to knock into his house to make sure there is actually a parent there? Did he just rescue 8 year old from being murdered, and drop him off at the door? And police don't want to check with the kid?

The baddies try to break into Kevin's at 9pm, the place gets trashed, but he has it pretty spotless again by bedtime.

Still brilliant though

Graphista · 24/12/2019 18:48

@ohwheniknow thanks for the pitch perfect explanation

I was dragged along to the first one by dd but loved it and thoroughly enjoyed the sequels too - but they are daft!

Yes - gravity is tess geritsens work plagiarised VERY obviously (I've not seen the film but have read the script) she took it to court and was outrageously denied justice. Appalling what happened.

OP posts:
GlitchStitch · 24/12/2019 18:51

My DS has just mentioned Home Alone, says the phone lines are down but he manages to order pizza. I can't remember if they get fixed, but then surely his parents could call him? Can anyone remember?

doadeer · 24/12/2019 18:59

Vanya

Yes maybe you're right but it's not clear that every single one was killed?

I know the answer to that! He has to go to the Dursleys as he is protected by strong magic placed by dumbledore when under their roof which disappears when he comes of age at 17

yellowallpaper · 24/12/2019 19:05

So not diss the Sixth Sense! One of the best films ever 😀

He didn't notice that he didn't interact with anyone for a year because he was in a kind of twilight world and drifted in and out of the real world with only the interactions in the film being the ones that are shown in the film and that felt real. I made that up 🤣🤣🤣
