Trying to be more varied with my viewing habits.

I have prime and have mainly been watching "bones" and "scandal" on it.

Movie wise been watching some old favourites with a few new (to me) thrown in...but I'm frequently disappointed by "new" films - is that just me?

Generally to give you an idea what I like:

80's and 90's hits - the usual ones, I know he's not loved on mn but I do like most Tom cruise films (his lighter stuff to be honest, not so keen on the vanity projects), dirty dancing, breakfast club, goonies, back to the future, Indiana Jones. Pretty woman, adventures in babysitting, Erin brokovich, 6th sense, scream, la confidential

Action movies, thrillers, courtroom drama, political/social issues dramas (bit of a conspiracy theory fan)

I like narrative driven pieces, no subtitles please (my eyesight isn't great and I struggle to read them fast enough).

I sometimes like a horror but I'm not a fan of all violence as it's just boring, like a good narrative to it.

Comedy - I seem to be really fussy on this. I don't like slapstick or gross out stuff, nothing too juvenile or try hard. I like sweet, moving ones with again a decent narrative.

Favourites include: the proposal, hitch, Katherine heigl ones, practical magic, 10 things I hate about you, about time, 4 weddings (might as well be honest), say anything, Groundhog Day, the wedding date, some kind of wonderful

So based on this what movies INCLUDED with prime would you recommend?

As you've confessed to Tom Cruise I'll admit a soft spot for Jackie Chan capers. The Tuxedo is free at the minute.
Larry Crowne
The Client
Imitation Game
50 first dates
The Book Club (not free yet but put it on your watchlist)
Hidden Figures is excellent (ditto)

Prisoners
Inside Llewyn Davis
Mamma Mia
The Big Sick
Room
I. Tonya
Sunshine Cleaning
Wish You Were Here

"As you've confessed to Tom Cruise I'll admit a soft spot for Jackie Chan capers. The Tuxedo is free at the minute." Are there lots of subtitles though? I can't be doing with them as I say I can't read them fast enough!

"The Book Club (not free yet but put it on your watchlist)
Hidden Figures is excellent (ditto)" will do, I've only been on prime a few months but have already noticed titles jump on and off the "included with prime" thing and I've fancied seeing hidden figures for a while

"The Client
Imitation Game
50 first dates" seen all these and do like them. Struggle with Adam sandler, like some of his films but heard he's an arsehole in real life especially to co-stars in a #metoo way?

Although it's very frustrating as if we stopped watching all films tainted by #metoo revelations there'd be sod all left to watch! And I also struggle with the idea of not watching them meaning those that worked on them and didn't do anything wrong are indirectly punished!

"Prisoners" never heard of this, more info?

"Inside Llewyn Davis"
Coen brothers I seem to either love or hate their stuff, is it more raising Arizona, Fargo? Or is it more big lebowski?

"The big sick" sounds interesting

"Room" I cannot watch for personal reasons

"Sunshine cleaning" ditto

Mamma Mia I was dragged to and then loved! I like a musical/music based film. Similar story with pitch perfect which I love (with the exception of the vomiting storyline)

Thanks to both of you for replying. Few more added to watchlist

Jackie Chan caper films are just American English eg Shanghai Noon Rush Hour. (Not the early martial arts ones.)

Graphista · 04/07/2019 20:13

Might give it a go then. I did like him in the karate kid remake

Don't think I've seen any of his other films,

You really really need to watch the Marvelous Mrs maisel it's fantastic. It's a series by the same writers as the Gilmore Girls but I think it's better than the Gilmore Girls.

Graphista · 04/07/2019 20:54

Didn't know was same writers as Gilmore girls which I adore.

Might give it a shot.

But was meaning this thread to be films
