I can't get the Zac Efron tune out of my head!
I want to see the film.
Has anyone seen the original? What's the storyline?

The original is wonderful. Like most John Waters films it doesn't have much of a plot, not one I remember anyway
Something to do with a fat girl and her fat mum (Rikki Lake and Divine) being cheated and badmouthed by a horrible thin girl and her mum (the mum was Debbie Harry) in some kind of high school dance/popularity contest. Eventually Debbie Harry attempts to sabotage Rikki Lake's imminent victory by having a bomb concealed in her giant beehive.
Zac Efron, good - Rachel Sweet, better

MamaGryffindor · 17/07/2007 21:36

I want to see it too

PersonalHouseElf · 17/07/2007 21:39

I've just put the original on my lovefilm account.
Should be a laugh!

I went to see this the othre night. Loved it. There is an underlying theme though which hasn't been mentioned on integration. Watch out for cameo appearances with John Waters as a flasher and Rikki Lake as one of the talent scounts. I am a big fan of musicals anyway so would give it a big thumbsup.

Hulababy · 22/07/2007 22:04

What's is like? 5yo DD saw a trailer for it the other day and keeps asking to go and see it. But I have no idea of content or anything. Is it a big dance and musical type thing, or more than that?

Clementine1 · 22/07/2007 22:14

She'd love it Hula - I am bringing my two to it next week. It will be a bit over her head as there is a very strong undertone to do with race but I really enjoyed it and I know my DD will love it too. (BTW - you do know who this is don't you) :D

HedwigtheWonderPet · 22/07/2007 22:28

Saw it last night and it was fab
DD is too small to see it yet, can't wait til she is older and I can take her to see films.

Whooosh · 22/07/2007 22:30

Oh I luuuurved the original-not sure I want to see this one.....

Hulababy · 23/07/2007 08:25

Clementine - I am assuming so, blatant give away in name there yes?!

Will take her along to enjoy then. Might make a a change from HSM and Disney Princess stuff anyway! And give us something to do in this horrid wet weather. Thanks

I took dd (9) and her friend to it yesterday, we all loved it.
Michelle Pfieffer looked a bit shockingly old but good for her not going the plastic surgery route.

Saw it last night. Very good. Sadly had to sit in the front row due to overrunning ladies chat at ajoining bar re MN and 'is it nice or is it horrid',

My tip is: Don't watch fast dance sequence/bright primary colour films in the front row. It will cause motion sickness.

Travolta had a rather suspect Dr Evil accent at some points but thought his fat suit v convincing (couldn't see any join at the ankles).

Oh the young'uns were ace
Oh to be energetic and nimble again.

PMSL in the car coming back, we were all discussing travolta and my friend in the back says "John Travolta....was he in it???Who was he"????? Dear oh Dear.

Biglips · 17/08/2007 19:04

Me and my Mum are going tonite.. as its sounds good.

gscrym · 17/08/2007 19:06

I loved it but was a bit scared by John Travoltas accent as the lovely Edna Turnblad. It's quite different from the old film.

Biglips · 18/08/2007 10:08

oooh i had a good night out last nite as i so felt like getting up and dance!! .... it was a v funny movie and sooo happy!!!
