Help remembering what film this is.

I think this is a film I'm thinking of because I can't think of what else it can be.

Basically there are the heroes fighting a lot of bad guys, and they realise they need to kill the leader for all the rest to be destroyed. I'm not sure what the enemy is but it could robots, aliens, mythical creatures, I don't know. It might not even be the leader thst needs to be destroyed, it might be the 'heart' or something.

It's not Game of Thrones because that's what reminded me in the first place, and I can very nearly visualise it. Google hasn't helped.

It's one of those annoying memories that is just out of reach. Any help would be appreciated.

I suppose Harry Potter would have been similar if all the enemies died after the snake was killed. A bit like a domino effect.

Edge of tomorrow is the one where he's stuck in a time loop? I don't think that's it as I don't remember the film well enough, just the bit at the beginning that he keeps going back to.

I had thought of Independence Day as it's the same premise, except more like a Lord of the Rings style battle going on.

I'm thinking I have to let it go because I wont ever remember it, but it's been bothering me for a week already.

Is it definitely a film rather than a book? The Passage trilogy by Justin Cronin has a similar plot, they need to kill "the twelve" so the rest will die.

My first thought was The Faculty with Josh Hartnett.

Sounds like the avengers first one. The metal monsters all collapse after the boss is blown up.
Then again Independence Day 2 was the same as well once the queen was dead. I think.

Reign of fire? They have to kill the one male dragon so that they will stop reproducing and die out and it's game if thrones esque
