Saddest film you've ever seen?

So I'm sitting here watching Seven Pounds (Will Smith)
I've seen this film loads of times, but it never fails to make me cry. Like proper ugly cry, tears streaming, everything.
This is the only film that does this to me. I think it's so underrated.

What movies do this to other people??

Made* not make!

MaMisled · 13/01/2019 13:58

The Bridges of Madison County with, I think, Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep. I was trying to leave an unhappy marriage and this film had me wretch with sobbing.

KatyaZamolodchikova · 13/01/2019 13:59

Pan’s Labyrinth. DP made me watch it when we were dating and I ugly cried all the way through.

Iamnobirdandnonetensnaresme · 13/01/2019 14:01

Me before you- not a dry eye in the cinema, cried all the way home too.

Manchester by the sea was just depressing absolutely no joy in that film at all.

Wonder - cried so many times at so many bits

rosieposey · 13/01/2019 14:02

The Book Thief ... DH and I were sobbing as we walked out of the cinema - I felt physically drained because of how much I cried during that film - utterly beautiful and heart wrenchingly sad.

rosieposey · 13/01/2019 14:03

Oh and War horse, I have three horses of my own and I couldn't bear to see what Joey went through.

longhaulstress · 13/01/2019 14:13

When a monster calls saddest one dh and I have ever seen by a country mile.

rosydreams · 13/01/2019 14:16

grave of the fireflys

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 13/01/2019 14:20

A Monster Calls.. The last line the monster/tree says.. Wow!! Pretty much whole cinema was in tears

Lion.. Then read the book and cried more.

Saving Mr Banks.. A lot of teary moments in that then came the end!

Oddly the new Cinderella. Half happy half sad

gallicgirl · 13/01/2019 14:27

I came to suggest Beaches, always makes me cry. However, there is something so intrinsically sad about Educating Rita.
I know it's humorous but I find the way the characters move away from their loved ones as they embark on their journey of self-discovery is so tragic.

MrsJDornan · 13/01/2019 14:43

My sisters keeper, thaw scene on the beach gets me every time

Oh and beaches 😢

MrsJDornan · 13/01/2019 14:43

LunaLunitaLunera · 13/01/2019 14:51

As a child.

Animal Farm
Watershipdown
Bambi
Black Beauty

Never ate another animal after watching those four!

The color purple
The Champ
Kramer vs Kramer

Not a film but I was wailing watching the last episode of Six Feet Under. I've never cried like that before or after!

HoraceCope · 13/01/2019 14:52

West side story never fails to make me sob

AnaisB · 13/01/2019 15:17

Dancer in the Dark made the whole cinema properly don’t.

MrsApplepants · 13/01/2019 15:22

AliMonkey · 13/01/2019 15:35

Too many to just list one, I will cry at most films! But the ones that always stick in my mind are:
The Mission
Killing Fields
Schindler's List
Boy in Striped Pyjamas
Shadowlands
Beaches
Steel Magnolias
Shawshank Redemption
Green Mile
About Time
Time Traveller's Wife
Message in a Bottle
Fault in Our Stars
My Sister's Keeper

redredvino · 13/01/2019 15:37

The pianist was the most moving and upsetting film I have ever seen

RussellSprout · 13/01/2019 15:38

Schindler's list.... and all the more sad for being true.

nicslackey · 13/01/2019 15:40

Another vote for Bridges of Madison County. Oh, and The Way We Were and Schindler's list.

Alwaysatyke · 13/01/2019 15:41

No one has mentioned Pay It Forward...oh god that film destroys me and I'm usually a cold hearted soulless automaton
