Saddest film you've ever seen?

So I'm sitting here watching Seven Pounds (Will Smith)
I've seen this film loads of times, but it never fails to make me cry. Like proper ugly cry, tears streaming, everything.
This is the only film that does this to me. I think it's so underrated.

What movies do this to other people??

But the saddest thing ever must be the Futurama episode about Fry's dog (Jurassic Bark I think). Absolutely heartbreaking.

I’m pretty stoic and would struggle to list anything, including the majority listed here, but this one is absolutely gut wrenching. We refuse to watch this now when the constant reruns are on. Reason being every single one of us cry. I cry, DD (older teen) sobs, DH and adult sons are all choking back tears with the odd one trickling down. It’s fucking terrible. The worst thing is, even when the episode starts and we realise what it is and turn over to another show we all sit there morbidly for the rest of the night as we are all remembering it.

@crabb

Grave of the Fireflies - a Studio Ghibli anime. An IMDB reviewer called it “The best movie you’ll never want to see again”. Pretty accurate 😞
Just about to say the same thing. If I was to choose an individual scene in a movie it would be in Empire of the Sun when young Jim realises he can't remember what his parents look like.

blubberball · 02/09/2021 05:29

Plague dogs is the saddest, most depressing film I've ever seen. It's from the he same animation studio that made Watership down, just to give you an idea of how cheerful it is.

Powertoyou · 11/09/2021 16:44

Did anyone see Arrival with Amy Adams? Supposed to be sci fi but hits you with childhood leukaemia in the first 5 minutes.

Also coco and up.
