Saddest film you've ever seen?

So I'm sitting here watching Seven Pounds (Will Smith)
I've seen this film loads of times, but it never fails to make me cry. Like proper ugly cry, tears streaming, everything.
This is the only film that does this to me. I think it's so underrated.

What movies do this to other people??

OP posts:

Schindlers list

Beaches always gets me.

I recently watched A Dogs Purpose with my children and I sobbed for what felt like the entire film!!

MondeoFan · 29/10/2019 20:50

Beaches and The Green Mile

Don't even think I could go through it all again

Keepitjuicyjuicy · 29/10/2019 20:51

The cardboard boxer. It's so sad because it could happen to anyone at any time. Excellently made though.

pleasestoprainingplease · 29/10/2019 20:52

Little princess. Every single time!

Orangecake123 · 29/10/2019 20:53

1.Sarah's Key.

She tries so hard to get back to her brother. It's set during the second world war.

Other movies that always make me cry Little women when Beth dies. and a little princess when she's begging her dad to remember her.

Bridge to Terebithia - a very sad children's film

userxx · 29/10/2019 21:03

Not a film but the littlest hobo used to have me bawling at the end, when he trotted off on his own down a road.

SunshineAngel · 29/10/2019 21:03

I am SO glad to see that the first post on this thread was "Hatchii".

I absolutely bawled my eyes out at this. I am NOT a film crier, wasn't hormonal, I had no excuse whatsoever. But my god, it broke my heart, and I felt down all evening after watching it!

Jinglejanglefish · 29/10/2019 21:05

Not sure if it's been mentioned already but DP made me watch an Italian film a few years ago called Life is Beautiful and the ending was really devastating.

haverhill · 29/10/2019 21:09

Shadowlands - Anthony Hopkins plays C S Lewis losing his wife to cancer. There’s a bit at the end when her son opens a wardrobe expecting to see her again.
Wit - Emma Thompson dying alone.
Grave of the Fireflies - dear God SadSad

Savingforarainyday · 29/10/2019 21:11

Does anyone else cry during Juno?
The scene where Allyson Janney shouts for someone to help her kid?
And then when she's crying because she's giving up her baby?

I sob every time.

And a bunch of other films people have already said

haverhill · 29/10/2019 21:14

Honourable mention to Inside Out - the last scene with BingBong - cried like a baby.

buzzswole · 29/10/2019 21:34

The bicycle thief is an absolute punch to the stomach and makes me heave with tears.
Anyone seen it?
Also agree about beaches, the notebook, inside out, requiem for a dream, Marley and me...
I didn't think I was a crier but clearly I am.

Bunkerlife · 29/10/2019 22:01

Bunkerlife · 29/10/2019 22:14

Sorry it's just called Sunshine, about a mum with terminal cancer she makes tapes for her daughter. It's a real tear jerker.

MrsApplepants · 29/10/2019 22:26

My Sisters Keeper
Schindler’s List
The Pianist
I, Daniel Blake

lakeswimmer · 29/10/2019 22:39

My Life Without Me about a young Mum who's terminally ill and makes preparations to leave her husband and little children behind.

I started crying about a minute in and didn't stop - I don't think I could re-watch it...

IHaveBrilloHair · 30/10/2019 15:03

@buzzswole
I had to have a shower after Requiem for a dream.
Great film, but horrible too.
I need to give it a second watch really now I know how it ends.

Dd affectionately calls her BF, the robot, as he doesn't cry at anything, so we're on a mission to make him. Grin

buzzswole · 31/10/2019 09:46

@IHaveBrilloHair I was absolutely distraught after watching it and don't think I could put myself through it again

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/10/2019 10:03

I've just put in on, rented from prime, in a couple of hours I'll be off to shower with bleach

666onmyhead · 03/11/2019 16:32

Watching War Horse just now, while weeping away almost every 10mins! My DH is laughing ( kindly) at me, saying I'm a big Jessie . I know I am .

HappydaysArehere · 13/11/2019 09:01
