Should a woman be cast instead of a man, in the James Bond films???

It would be nice to see a well thought out female agent character who could bring something fresh to that genre rather than having a female 'for the sake of it' iyswiml

There seems to just be lots of re-hashes of male dominated movies with females instead and they are being criticized as being lazy writing.

No, James Bond is a man.

Yes there probably should be a well thought out female secret agent in the mold of Lara Croft, but someone needs to come up with that independently rather than hijacking an established franchise.

If the rumours are true and it is Gillian Anderson, then I’m all for it!

By all means make films about female globe-trotting spies who come up against villians who talk too much and who sleep with all and sundry, but leave James Bond alone.

Wouldn't a blatant bond-rip-off for women merely draw unfavourable contrast? Yes, women should have a lead in one of these - but as bond switches between male leads so often, why not a female lead? James Bond becomes a bit like Dread Pirate Roberts - a concept more than a name. ["I'm Brian, and so is my wife". Sorry.]

Why does it have to be female Bond? Leave Jame Bond to be a male. However, they could introduce a new agent which Bond works with in one of his movies and create a spin-off.

I feel that would be the safest way to do it. She could be Agent 009, gives more freedom to allow the writers create something well thought out.

It’s a ridiculous idea.

Write good female roles, don’t just recast Male ones.
