I’m watching this on telly at the moment and I’m genuinely torn. It’s so great in some ways, but it is also has our hero showing the ladies how to do feminism properly and be less of a pushover in the exact same way that the white bloke always shows the aliens/samurai/Mexicans/native Americans how to fight in umpteen Hollywood movies.

I rewatched this too - it is one of my favourite films and I realised it is 36 years old! You make a good point but I can still enjoy it as being "of its time"

However it does end with him acknowledging HE is the one with something to learn - in the final scene he says to Julie, "I was a better man with you as a woman than I ever was with a woman as a man. I just need to learn to do it without the dress on."
