I've been visiting the cinema since I was very small and for me and my papa used to go to the cinema every week or ever other week, and now it's a once in a blue moon but Within that time an adult ticket has gone from about £5.00 to £12.00 ! ...
And the child teen and senior are terrible aswell , closer you get to londom and the tickets rocket to £14.00 !
im not suprised people pirate films or rather stick Netflix on rather than go to the cinema .

Will a trip to the cinema become a thing of the past or something only the rich can afford

I am going to see a film this evening that I know won't get distributed to mainstream cinemas, and even my local art house probably won't touch it. I can't go before 6.00 because I am doing something else so can't take advantage of their early bird. So it will cost me £13. still cheaper than a theatre, and it is a very comfortable cinema, but even so it is pricey. I will just have to walk past their cake display with determination!

actually, now I think about it I need to book!

BagelGoesWalking · 25/02/2018 01:18

Good God, most of you are paying peanuts! SE here, two Everyman cinemas are nearest to us. One you can sometimes find free parking on surrounding streets, other is paid parking.

Weekdays except Fri is £11.70, Fri and weekends £14.70

Next nearest (20-30 mins drive) is a bit cheaper (Odeon or Vue) but then you have to add on parking charges for at least 3 hours. So not much change out of £20 per ticket if I treat myself with a coffee (popcorn from home).

BagelGoesWalking · 25/02/2018 01:19

Although, I have to say Everyman prices are worth it for legroom and comfortable sofas 😬

Time40 · 25/02/2018 01:54

Yes, it's so expensive where I am that I have stopped going. Even our little art-house cinema (which I would love to support) has gone up to £12. It's cheaper to buy the DVD and project it onto the wall, which is what we do now.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 26/02/2018 14:11

Clawdeen it’s Vue at Wood Green!

FlowerPotMum · 26/02/2018 14:22

My nearest is Sheffield. Odeon is the cheapest, cineworld and vue about on par ( expensive!). We have a lovely new one called 'The light'. It looks beautiful, but it's way out of our price range. We do movies for juniors with a trip to Home Bargains or wilkos for sweeties and pop.

Petalflowers · 03/03/2018 22:38

Groupon have a deal on where you can get five tickets for £20. Bargain.

Riverside2 · 03/03/2018 22:42

I can't believe a pp is saying complain about the cost
It's your choice to go or not!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/03/2018 22:50

We have an independent cinema in our town. Just one big screen, so if you don’t fancy what’s showing, tough. With our over 60s discount and BOGOF Mondays it costs me and DH £6 for a night out. £10 if we push the boat out and order something from the bar.

BitOfFun · 03/03/2018 22:52

Tickets at our local independent community cinema are £4.90, £3.90 concessions and children.

It has three screens and shows both the latest films and some arthouse/special screenings. This International Women's Day, Hidden Figures is being screened for free.

Lorralorralaughs · 03/03/2018 23:02

I live in Berkshire, to see a film at Bracknell cinema, tickets are £7.25...at Maidenhead they are £13.50...7 miles between cinemas and a huge variation in cost. Nowadays we wait until they're on Sky or Netflix.

Arseface · 03/03/2018 23:10

London, nearest is an Odeon and tickets for Black Panther tomorrow are £14.50 per adult, under 12s are £11 Shock

There are loads of deals on though, I get two for one through a subscription I get through work and DS1 & his friends have some sort of membership thingy for under 18s.

Arseface · 03/03/2018 23:14

BoF that sounds lovely!

I tend to only take my dd to kids club. Our local chain cinema has just reopened after having a refurb. It now has sofas and reclining armchairs and still the same £1.50 kids club price! (Im sure they would be more if you went to a normal showing)

BitOfFun · 04/03/2018 00:03

Arseface, it really is. It was threatened with closure several years ago, and people came together to run it as a community and secured lottery funding for it. I love it even though the charity shop is overpriced Smile

bimbobaggins · 04/03/2018 20:50

Our local is a showcase and it’s £6.50 for a mon or Tuesday. They do the meerkat movies so you can get 2 for about £8.
I don’t really go at night but think it’s about £9 .

Fionaandflake · 04/03/2018 21:38

Another one who has just discovered that I have been paying vue £12 per ticket when I could have been paying £5 for a different vue equally far away. Unbelievable!

IllustriouslyIllogical · 04/03/2018 22:17

Some films I'll make a point of going to the cinema to see - anything that I think will be a lot louder & more full on.

Lots of explosions & the like - cinema. The rest, I'll wait until I can get them on Netflix/Amazon.....

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 05/03/2018 08:34

Same here, BOF. Ours isn’t community run but the current owners are really making an effort, new releases, LOTS of live screenings (Shakespeare, ballet, opera etc) and the theatre is used for community events between times. Corporate cinemas feel quite sterile by comparison and we feel lucky to have it.

Frombothsidesnow · 05/03/2018 08:42

Our only cinema option, and I mean only, is Cineworld, and we pay £14 per adult. It's a crappy multiplex with mostly small screens, always full of people eating loudly, and I hate it. We go very rarely.

bruffin · 05/03/2018 09:00

Our local Cineworld hosts a church on Sunday and has lots of Live screenings

Faultymain5 · 05/03/2018 13:45

I use my tesco vouchers. I've recently got gourmet society, so when they run out I'll be using that. Also have some voucher with sainsburys.

But I also go in town to Curzon (footstools and tables for food and drink (it's a lovely experience), which is about £11, which for Central London is good. I had a disgusting hot dog, water and ticket and it came up to £18.

Quickerthanavicar · 21/06/2018 20:13

I pay £50 a month so I and a friend can go as often as we like, Everyman.

Fabricwitch · 21/06/2018 20:16

When we lived in the UK we both had meer cat passes and would go to the cinema at least once a week, and very often twice. It was under £10 for the two of us, I can't remember exactly how much, but we thought it reasonable. It costs €25 now for the 2 of us where we live so very rarely go.

Takethemdown · 21/06/2018 20:17

Our local little town Cineworld is £11
In our city the view is £5.50
