Watching it again today. Makes me shiver all over. I still cannot get it in my head how humans can do this to eachother. a great film with a great cast and a fantastic director imo.

I remember watching it for the first time not long after it came out and being so moved by it. I cried buckets. It's such a well made film with a brilliant cast. Lest we forget

I watched it again today. Fantastic film. And yes I cried.
Unfortunately the book Schindler's ark ruined it for me.
But the end ,when he's given the ring and breaks down saying his pin could of got 2 people, his car 10 people.

The film the girl in the red coat breaks me every time.

My grandparents were from Eastern Europe who came over after the war as displaced people.
They didn't want to tell there story. But I know with out doubt they were brave as anything.

Strangely Schindler's List isnt one I found compelling.

The Piano on the other hand, I can't watch that again.

It's been a long time since I read it but it didn't take anything away for me.

He was a very flawed man but he did save all those people and (if memory serves) he remains the only person to ever get a group of people out of Aushwitz - the bit where the women - his "skilled workers" are accidentally sent there - did actually happen.

@CrowOnTheBroom . It's called Schindler's ark and is non fiction. The 1st page in says.

To the memory of Oskar Schindler, and to Leopold pfefferberg who by zeal and persistence caused this book to be written.

It is the Schindler's Jews story as they told it , not Stephen Spielberg's version. With out spoiling , not everyone in the film died.

I mean The Piano is an excellent film, but the Pianist is certainly more relevant in this discussion.

I love the film Schindler's List, Meh the girl in the red coat is so poignant, it always gets me too. but I've not watched it since I had DS. I was a crier before, but since having him I'm an emotional wreck. (thought it would go away with pregnancy hormones etc. but it's been nearly 11 years and I'm still waiting)

How about The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas?

The Pianist is another one I love. My ds saw the film and it really stayed with him. Especially the last part when Adrian Broady is asked to play the piano for the nazi captain. Ds actually taught himself to play that piece. Then played it for his entry exam for his music in college.

The Pianist is a very good film. I haven't seen it for so long I don't think my emotions would take films like that post children.

yes... I did, I was just joking, no need to get all just a lighthearted comment.

The soundtrack for the pianist is beautiful. I do find all wartime movies very emotional to watch though. the Human loss in war is so upsetting, especially the holocaust.

Has anyone seen the zoo keepers wife? It's basically about a zoo keepers wife who hides and smuggles out hundreds of Jews right under the Germans noses. It's based on a true story about Warsaw zoo.

I haven't seen it for years but remember finding the ending in which some of the actors accompany the characters they have been portraying (who are of course all quite elderly) to Schindler's grave very moving.

The boy in the striped pyjamas was a very moving film.

Son of Saul (Netflix) is meant to be brilliant filmmaking but I haven't steered myself to see it yet. I'm not sure if I can take it, although I feel I should.

Sophie's Choice broke me into pieces when I saw it when I was about 16. I still remember certain scenes.

Son of Saul is slow me bing but very poignant. I don't know how the sonderkomandos were able to do their jobs, knowing their ultimate fate. To me, that is the ultimate barbarity (how they were treated, not what they did).

Schindler's list is very moving. Took a group of students on a Holocaust trip last year, and our guide pointed out all the things in the movie - the hospital, the drain they hid down etc etc...

Hate the boy in the striped pyjamas though, just so inaccurate.

The grey zone is similar to Son of Saul - very thought provoking.
