Yes I agree about the Devil Wears Prada.

Meryl was trying to make out she had INVENTED a colour.

AgentCooper · 30/04/2018 10:23

Yes to Wolf Creek, Threads, The Road. All day-ruining (if not week-ruining) viewing.

DH bought me the dvd of Ghostwatch for Christmas, knowing I like a spooky story. I knew it wasn't real and thought it would just be quite entertaining but I was traumatised for days! I couldn't sleep and was actually quite glad to have a non-sleeping baby for company Grin

The Mist. The ending scene made me angry LOLOL

I've only recently started watching horror films having avoided them for most of my life. I watched all three Human Centipedes and just thought they were ridiculous with really terrible acting.

I watched Hostel and, while awful, thought there was some kind of message in it (probably made it up!). t the beginning of the film the men are all excited to find this place where they can do anything they want to the women, as long as they pay. Abhorrent. But in the end it's them who end up in the situation where people are paying to do anything to them. I couldn't rationalise the second one though!

I watched all of the Saw films and was pretty repulsed by all the horrific methods of torture and murder, but also intrigued to see what else they would come up with. And Donnie Wahlberg being in the first couple helped as I was a huge New Kids fan back in the day!

The film's I struggle with are horrors with supernatural elements. They keep me awake at night.

A few people have mentioned Changeling with Angelina Jolie. I watched that years ago and it was truly awful but it's one I'd like to see again.

I recently watched a couple of the Open Water films which really scare me. The thought of being abandoned in the sea, with no hope of rescue. I think it's the second one where there's a baby left on the boat and her mother can hear her crying but can't get to her because she's stranded in the water. Isolation and hopeless make for uncomfortable viewing.

Annihilation

A film called sleepers. Was about four boys that are detained in a juvenile “care home” for tear away teens. They suffer abuse etc it made me feel quite sick

That's a good film - Kevin Bacon, Robert De Niro, Brad Pitt etc. Very uncomfortable viewing though.

I can handle horror films. The film that really bothered me was The Light Between Oceans. I watched it when my son was newborn and it really disturbed me.

The Wind that Shakes the Barley

mikado1 · 12/08/2018 18:52

Wolf creek

xsquared · 12/08/2018 20:44

I remember going to see “Sleeper” as a teenager without knowing what it was about. The film was very good but I found it very disturbing and wasn’t prepared for those scenes.

Other films that I won’t watch again for being too disturbing.

The Accused
Seven
Kill Bill
Magdalene Sisters
Silence of the Lambs
Schindler’s list
The boy with striped pyjamas
The Pianist
All horror films

xsquared · 12/08/2018 20:49

Oh and Requiem for a dream. Again, had no idea what that was about but Dh who at the time was on duty for the fun society, took me to it and I don’t think I could sleep that night as that mintage scene stayed with me.

madvixen · 12/08/2018 20:49

A very odd film called Breaking the Waves. I watched it about 18 years ago and it still creeps me out now. Very, very strange and disturbing film

xsquared · 12/08/2018 20:49

“film society”

Slightlyjaded · 12/08/2018 21:58

Love Requiem for a Dream AND Breaking the Waves.

Gets coat

Rodofiron · 13/08/2018 19:38

Any of the 50 shades debacles. They have scarred me for life.

AngelsAckiz · 26/08/2018 21:44

I can't watch films with sexualized violence or violence against women due to Complex PTSD. I find them offensive to my core and it's lazy writing to give a female character, rape as a backstory and the "reason" to better herself. Women don't need to be raped, in order to be interesting characters WTF. Rape culture at work.

My films are:
Flesh and Blood
The Ring
A Clockwork Orange
Django Unchained (watched 10 minutes!)
Candyman
Schindlers List
Green Mile
12 Years A Slave
Happy Birthday To Me (a video nasty I was made to watch as a kid)

My ds liked to put 80s snuff films on for me when I was little to see how long it took for me to cry. For some reason she thought it was funny!

maddie57 · 27/08/2018 14:53

Lake Eden - just caught the second half and it was horrific. Probably because it is one of those films you could believe could happen.

daisychain01 · 27/08/2018 15:03

Xsquared please don't call Schindler’s list and The boy with striped pyjamas 'horror films', which are a very different genre of film.

The Holocaust was horrific, but both those films were accounts of events that happened, and were not designed to shock, like horror films are. They were created to raise awareness.

daisychain01 · 27/08/2018 15:07

Sorry I may have misspoken xsquared, I think someone earlier called them horror films not you x subject close to my heart x

wiccamum · 27/08/2018 15:08

@PringlePirate...totally with you on Annihilation. I couldn’t get over that scene with the bear, the sound it makes...it’s just...wrong!
Also saw one recently, “Ghost Stories”. British film, not shown in a lot of cinemas. It scared the bejessus out of me!! Also, I am truly terrified of zombies (I can’t handle anything on film that moves in an “unnatural” way) so 28 days later and World War Z...never again!!

wiccamum · 27/08/2018 15:17

@Lordemsworth...yeh good luck! I needed to keep the landing light on at night for weeks after watching Ghost Stories...too scared to go for a wee in the dark 😆

xsquared · 27/08/2018 23:21

Just seen your post Daisy.

No, I didn’t mean to categorise Schindler’s List or The boy in striped pyjamas as “horror” films and although I have no intention in watching them again soon, I do recognise their value in raising awareness of the Holocaust.

The Mist
28 Days Later
Take Shelter - end scene especially Shock

I now avoid psychological horrors at all costs.

craftymum01 · 27/08/2018 23:48

Another vote for human centipede here. Disturbed me for months.
Teeth is pretty effed up but only because I don’t know how people think of these things!
Kids is pretty awful. Another film that stayed with me for a very long time.
I watched the exorcist when I was 13. Kept thinking I would see Linda Blair in my bed when ever i walked into my bedroom.
