The Colour Purple
History of Violence
American History X

All horror films - accidentally watched a Centipede one and was horribly disturbed

The Descent

Absolutely terrified me. Think it was the false ending that did it. I will never ever go caving.

bummypicklemummy · 16/01/2018 17:59

Hills have eyes

12 years a slave had me sobbing. Never again.

LyraPotter · 16/01/2018 18:01

Dogville.

SPOILERS

It absolutely traumatised me - the scene of the children ringing the bell every time she was raped still haunts me to this day.

SandyBeyatch · 16/01/2018 19:19

Dogville was horrific I agree. If you ever get a chance to see Dogtooth, that is pretty awful too, but really interesting too..

Greenteandchives · 16/01/2018 19:25

Soldier Blue. Will never forget some of the scenes of brutality in that film, although it is probably quite tame by today’s standards.
Black Swan.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 16/01/2018 19:33

Scum. I have a fairly high tolerance for horror films and gore etc but scum makes me feel physically sick.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 18/01/2018 21:39

Have an unexpected one to add... End of the F**king World, specifically the scene where, without giving away too much of a spoiler, the home owner comes back and shuts the bedroom door... That scene disturbed me sooo much. And I have watched a LOT of horror films and thrillers. Something about it just really got to me, and it wasn't the conclusion of the scene but the lead up to it. So, so sinister and menacing.

PrincessoftheSea · 18/01/2018 21:41

Lassie!

RachelRosie · 18/01/2018 23:19

I'm with OP. It doesn't take a lot of get to me...
An ex used to try and make me watch horrors all the time and I could never get more than 20 mins in.
The cut ankle scene in Hostel stuck with.

I love a good drama but some have had an effect.
I had to watch This is England in a seminar at uni, I was the only on crying in the room
The end of This is England 90' ruined me.
Never Let Me Go, I love but the whole concept is so disturbing...

penguintoy · 18/01/2018 23:20

Requiem for a dream

penguintoy · 18/01/2018 23:21

Also thinking about it The Butterfly Effect. And Up.

yaela123 · 20/01/2018 08:41

Well the human centipede really wasn't pleasant! I'm not usually squeamish/that affected by those sorts of things but it was on my mind for a few days.

LittleMyLikesSnuffkin · 24/01/2018 11:57

The ones on my list have featured heavily on other people’s already, but: I will add anger management. It has Adam Sandler in it and was the first movie of his I’d watched other than the wedding singer. There was this whole horrible plot line where he relentlessly took the piss out of another character because this guys sister had either mental health issues or learning difficulties. I can’t remember which (because I’ve wanted to forget) Fucking awful. My ex insisted we watch waterboy saying it was sooooo funny. Fucking wasn’t. Hate anything that takes cheap shots at groups of people who don’t have the wherewithal to defend themselves. Sick and wrong.

One of the most disturbing things I have ever watched on tv is American horror story: asylum. I love the show but the whole series was so bleak I will never rewatch it!

Orlandsundry · 24/01/2018 13:17

Yeala and others who watched the Human Centipede (with respect) why the heck did you watch it in the first place? I only read about it and it still haunts me

CoffeeChocolateWine · 24/01/2018 13:23

The only film I've ever watched and decided that I never want to see it ever again because it disturbed e so much was Wicker Man.

However, I do also realise that as much as I love James McEvoy and thought that the Last King of Scotland was a brilliant film, there are a couple of scenes in it that really do put me off ever watching it again. Although I could watch it and just skip through those scenes maybe!

Sarahh2014 · 24/01/2018 14:42

The human centipede was quite good Blush I think it's because it was soo out there it was compelling to watch

DXBCat · 24/01/2018 14:44

Wolf Creek was terrifying.

purpleme12 · 25/01/2018 19:34

The Skin I Live In I found that disturbing I had no idea it was going to be like it was. Seemed very different to the rest of Pedro Almodovar's films.

Split. Didn't like it at all. Disturbing. Possibly didn't research what it was going to be like before I saw it.

JAPAB · 27/01/2018 03:16

Hills have eyes

Original or remake? I have seen both more than once. Modern films can be very violent but have the nasty tone of some of the older horrors. The remake here was no exception.

Proudmummytodc2 · 27/01/2018 04:40

I haven't RTFT but quiet a few mentioned above I wouldn't watch again.

Just read about ASF I'm deeply disturbed just by reading the synopsis.

Another one for me is Momma dearest

There is a scene in it where she attacks the daughter with a coat hanger I don't know why but it always sticks with me.

Proudmummytodc2 · 27/01/2018 04:42

Just to clarify as my sentence read wrong I meant

I don't know why only that scene sticks with me considering the other things the Mum does to the daughter but that scene sticks in my mind.

My sentence read like I don't know why tracking a child with a coat hanger scene would stick I just meant over all that horrible scene that one won't leave me

mogulfield · 27/01/2018 05:11

Not a film but Black mirror ‘playtest’... that stuck with me!
The notebook... (I know Blush ) the concept was just so sad, not being able to recognise her own husband but for that split second. It really stayed with me.
Roots... the slave film. Just no let up, misery after misery. And based on a true story, very sad I nearly didn’t finish watching it.

Sevendown · 27/01/2018 09:06

The Patriot- the 2 people who get get killed, I can’t watch
Braveheart- too brutal
Aliens- too violent
The Shining- the bit when the janitor returns...
The Girl with the dragon tattoo- hate rape scenes in films
The Hand that rocks the cradle- no wonder women won’t go for smears!

JAPAB · 27/01/2018 09:40

Probably way off topic but I remember two moments from the game Manhunt. You play Johnny Cash and can hear the bad guy, "The Director", through an earpeace.

In one mission four of your family members have been kidnapped by the Director's men and you are meant to save them. But I screwed it up and when the second one died the Director says "Two down, two to go. That's half a family. Well, that's more than what I've got."

The other moment is in the next mission when you go into a room and a video is playing, showing that after the end of the previous mission the family members you set free were rounded up again and executed. The Director says "They are all gone now, Cash. I'm your family now."

No wonder it was so contraversial as those years ago!

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 27/01/2018 09:54

Interesting no-one has said Cold Mountain. I thought the plot and characters were very weak, but there's a scene where a woman has her... wrists (?) broken. Honestly, since I watched it, I've had to concentrate to wipe it from my mind as the casual callousness really disturbed me. It felt as if the torture of a woman was just a throwaway thing, which made me furious and disgusted! It's the only film I've seen in a cinema that I almost walked out of. I was much younger then. Now I wouldn't give it another chance.

Exactly as @Lambside said, my tolerance of continual violence toward women in particular is down to practically zero. I do sometimes wonder if the male directors, producers and viewers get off on it.
