Is it suitable for a nearly 15 year old son? I love The Thick Of It and In The Loop, but DS hasn't seen those due to the swearing.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/10/2017 12:12

There's a lot of swearing right from the start, Carrie.

CoolCarrie · 30/10/2017 12:41

Thank you Empress. He does hear me having the odd swear, but not not the Malcom Tucker type. Will wait until it's out on DVD, so I can watch it first.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/10/2017 21:07

I'm looking forward to seeing this. The cast list is fabulous.

TresDesolee · 30/10/2017 21:13

It’s amazing. Best film i’ve seen in a very long time. Funny, but really shocking and horrifying in the best possible way. The performances are fantastic. Knocks Bladerunner 2049 into several cocked hats, that’s for sure

wantawaistagain · 30/10/2017 22:47

I agree-the best film I've seen in years. I think both Steve Buscemi and Simon Russell Beale deserve best actor Oscar nominations and the supporting cast were also excellent. Andrea Riseborough was demented in the best possible way.

Garlicansapphire · 30/10/2017 22:53

I really liked it. Very deft contrasting of light and dark - not an easy task. I particularly liked Jason Isaacs as General Zhukov but they were all a very great ensemble cast. Well worth it.

ch0c0milk · 01/11/2017 09:18

hoping to see it this weekend

FreddieFazzbear · 01/11/2017 09:26

Dp and I are trying to find a cinema showing it. If not will have to wait for the DVD.

EssentialHummus · 01/11/2017 09:27

Much darker than I expected, and it's on my mind a week later. Very good. Had never heard of Jason Isaacs Blush.

PolkaDottyRose · 01/11/2017 09:32

Jason Isaacs was wonderful in Case Histories, if you ever get the chance to see it.

EssentialHummus · 01/11/2017 09:57

I'll have a look rose, thanks!

LadyinCement · 01/11/2017 10:01

I wish I knew the history in more depth - obviously I know the basics+ but I think a full knowledge of the period would have enabled one to get all the "jokes".

The film was like an extreme Horrible Histories - which does work rather well, I think.

Moussemoose · 01/11/2017 19:08

LadyinCement

Some of the details are wrong - Molotov was not foreign minister at the time of Stalin's death - Beria did not 'disappear' till a few months later - it was several years before Khrushchev became leader - however the gist of the history is correct.

I also think an adult Horrible History is a brilliant way of describing the film.

I want to go and see it againGrin

Jason Isaacs mmmmmmmmmmmm

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 01/11/2017 21:49

Andrea Riseborough was demented in the best possible way

Andrea Riseborough deserves a special mention for her bravery in the face of her charcater's haircut.

PolkaDottyRose · 01/11/2017 22:42

I loved Andrea Riseborough...she played it brilliantly.

LurkingHusband · 02/11/2017 07:12

Rupert Friend was very good too ...

PolkaDottyRose · 02/11/2017 09:10

Yes! very funny! I didn't realise that he was the young officer in The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas.

LurkingHusband · 02/11/2017 17:07

Armando Iannucci being interviewed by old mate Richard Herring, quite a lot about the film in the first half ...

I particularly liked the idea they had to "dial the comedy down" as the real story was even more unbelievable ...

GrumpyOldBag · 02/11/2017 17:16

Saw this was on at my local cinema the other day (when we went to see the new Blade Runner), and wondered what it was as hadn't heard about it.

Might go & see it now after reading positive feedback here.

And I was at Uni with Jason Isaacs ....

GrumpyOldBag · 02/11/2017 17:19

just watched the trailer ... what a great cast!

Oblomov17 · 02/11/2017 17:24

I want to see it. But it’s not on at my local cinema anymore.

Mumsnut · 02/11/2017 17:35

Fantastic

annandale · 04/11/2017 23:24

Simon Russell Beale absolutely amazing in this. Terrifying.

This is a film I wouldn't be too keen to break the age certificate for, not so much because of the swearing but the sheer bleakness of it.

Also if you get travel sick there is a LOT of hand held camera work.

MrsFring · 06/11/2017 21:36

That was genius. Simon Russel Beale made it for me.
