Is anyone planning to see this.

I was planning to see it soon but so many things I also want to see.

Got to see Judi Dench!

Just been to see it, really really enjoyed it. Was expecting it to be a bit like Mrs Brown, but it wasn't.

Bejazzled · 15/09/2017 22:54

I'm looking forward to it. I heard Dame Judy and Eddie Izzard on R5 live earlier, she was lovely as ever, but omg he was an utter bellend.

Davros · 15/09/2017 22:54

We enjoyed it too, nothing unexpected but well made and interesting. . Love Stephen Frears films

dataandspot · 15/09/2017 22:59

I read a Guardian review that made this film sound awful and racist.

Foxsox · 15/09/2017 23:00

I'm keen to see it
I'm
Intrigued by the reviews above

Toddlerteaplease · 15/09/2017 23:19

Data, by our standards the attitudes in it are racist. But buy Victorian standards it's probably fairly accurate. I bet it's actually been toned down a good deal.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/09/2017 08:52

Which one is Eddie Izzard?

NikiBabe · 19/09/2017 23:15

Eddie Izzard was Queen Victoria's eldest son and heir to the throne, Bertie.

I liked it. Entertaining and interesting. I felt sorry for Abduls friend and wish he could have gone home.

Loved it.

BeatriceBeaudelaire · 19/09/2017 23:22

Yes I'm going! Good Food did a segment about it which got me really interested Blush

Toddlerteaplease · 19/09/2017 23:40

Saw it again yesterday. Just as good second time round. The kitchen staff and maids would never have mixed with the members of the household. So the scenes where they were threatening to resign annoyed me a bit.

MsAmerica · 25/09/2017 22:37

I was awfully disappointed. Judi Dench is always a pleasure, of course, and it's a beautiful production - but the movie overall is shallow and heavy-handed.

wisewomanmummy · 25/09/2017 22:40

I agree MsAmerica, I think Judy D is very good, but the film lacked something.

FiveBoys · 26/09/2017 04:32

There's also this documentary and its available on youtube as well.

Towards the end of the film, Abdul talks about raindrops and the ocean. It sounded as if he was quoting something. It was a beautiful sentiment but I can't remember it in enough detail to identify it, can anyone help?

MCBeatsandGrindah · 04/10/2017 22:20

I think he might have said it was Rumi Thursday but I'm not sure.

HateSummer · 04/10/2017 22:22

This is the first movie my 9 year old has asked to watch in the cinema that isn't a cartoon. Will be appropriate for her? She's really desperate to watch it.

MCBeatsandGrindah · 04/10/2017 22:24

Yes Thursday it's called Listen, O Drop.

allegretto · 04/10/2017 22:25

I've seen the trailer and I feel like I've seen the whole thing - or is it somehow more surprising?

ThursdayNextIsMyHero · 05/10/2017 06:38

Thank you MCBeats, that's it.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/10/2017 17:30

I'd read about their "relationship" sometime ago, and have to admit that untill I picked the book up I had had no idea that she had had an Indian servant/confidant. (Wish I could remember what it was called and who wrote it) It was interesting and I enjoyed it. Don't fancy the film though, despite Judi Dench, but I couldn'tt say why.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 07/10/2017 17:35

Allegretto it's not much more than the trailers. It's a perfectly nice film to while away some time on the wet afternoon but that's about it.

Liliywil · 08/10/2017 16:44

Haven't watched this one. Wonder if its on Netflix.Hmm
