It won't be too bad as it is only a 12. If you have a look at the parent reviews of the film they usually give a good guide to how intense or frightening a film is

MusicToMyEars800 · 24/08/2017 21:02

It looks really good, I can't wait to see it, I don't think it will be scary though Smile

sakura06 · 25/08/2017 07:21

I was a bit scared in one part because I've read the books and knew what would happen. I'm a wimp though!

ClashCityRocker · 25/08/2017 07:26

I thought it wasnt based on the books? Or only loosely based?

I'm a bit disappointed they haven't done it 'properly', I'd love to see that.

Buck3t · 26/08/2017 06:53

It's a good enough film and works for people who haven't read the books. Took my 15 year old last night and he thought it was great. I was hoping it would make him interested in reading the books, but that's a different postConfused.

I have read the books and feel the film has taken the lore from them and come up with something quite entertaining. They've left it open for a sequel, should this prove successful.

It does help that Idris is a fab actor. I don't fancy him and don't get people who go crazy about him. But he is a damn fine actor.

Buck3t · 26/08/2017 06:57

Clashcity I kept watching it thinking they really should maje this properly, even a mini-series.

Dies anyone know if Matthew mconaughy will be playing Randall Flagg in the Stand? I'm sure I read that somewhere

Cooroo · 26/08/2017 07:20

I was so excited to see this but had heard bad things, so I'm glad to read people enjoyed it. I'm not expecting to see a film of the book - which wouldn't work with a black Roland, surely? I think they may be doing a proper series which would be exciting.

I loved the books but some of the race stuff with Odetta/Detta is uncomfortable now, maybe they would change that somehow?

Shoxfordian · 26/08/2017 07:52

Saw it last night and wasn't scared :)

I thought it was a good alternate version of events sequel to the dark tower books and it's quite entertaining.

Are they doing a film of the Stand?

@ClashCityRocker it is only loosely based on the books, but one of the ways Jake travels to Mid-World in the books is featured, which is quite scary (although not the terrifying and upsetting way from The Gunslinger).

ClashCityRocker · 27/08/2017 20:51

Ah thanks Sakura. I think I'll give it a go, but go with an open mind.

NikiBabe · 28/08/2017 01:36

Do you have to have seen or read anything first to understand?

Buck3t · 28/08/2017 09:06

Nikibabe no you don't. My son enjoyed it and has been quoting from it all weekend.

I've read the books and feel this movie is a stand alone film.

Grimbles · 09/09/2017 20:48

I supposed to be a sequel to the books. If you know how they end then you'll understand how.

Does it cover all of the books?

Buck3t · 20/09/2017 07:15

The director says it's a sequel. I've read the books and seen the film. I don't see it as a sequel. I see it as another door/timeline.
