Will I finally sat and watched my dvd of this last night. Overall I thought it to be a good book to film, but it lacked some of the passion and build up to Maude and Rolands romance. That was my only disapointment. I wished there had been as much desire and passion as Ash and le motte had shown in the seamless flow to their past scenes. I did enjoy the scenes in on Ashs' period. It was quite clever how they merged and linked both eras together. By the end I was balling my eyes out, due to the end scene, which sees Ash meet his daughter, the child he thought he had lost to lamottes assumed abortion. Very enjoyable one, I will have to watch again I think , I love all that risque passion, desire, and romance.

Just to add to my thought on what spoilt it. I think the main problem is Aaron Eckhart : although very handsome and great looking, he isnt believable as the pained and scholarly academic. He just doesnt suit this role at all.
