Set in Universal's Dark Universe.

Um, yeah.

Loud, dark, lots of portentous music, tons of CGI and absolute tosh.

There were elements of Raiders of the Lost Ark, An American Werewolf in London (dead friend appearing to Tom's character) and World War Z.

There were tons of zombies.

Russell Crowe stars as Henry Jeckyll (and Edward Hyde) collecting and failing miserably at defeating evil.

There's even the prospect of sequels, crossovers or spin off films in the style of the Marvel Universe.

God. There's gonna be more. Confused

Saw it last night and didn't rate it much. Few exciting bits, but on the whole thought it was utter drivel. My DP loved it though, but he's one of these blokes who enjoys a film if there's lots of screaming, explosions and zombies

Gingernaut · 11/06/2017 20:51

Yeah. It is a blokish film.

Is it anything to do with The Mummy with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weiss, or completely unrelated?

Teddy6767 · 12/06/2017 11:58

It's completely unrelated but it's a similar style of film

Only child and daughter of pharoah makes a pact with the God of the Dead, slits her Dad's throat and those of his wife and child after she gives birth to a son.

She dies a horrible death and is entombed in Mesopotamia.

This becomes modern Iraq where gungho Tom Cruise and pal are rogue soldierslooting looting antiquities and letting ISIS destroying historical sites cover their tracks.

They accidentally uncover monstrous Mummy and all kinds of mayhem ensues.

Dark, loud and stupid, but everyone I know has said the same thing - a bloke they know/are related to thinks it is fantastic.

There's no doubt the producers have thrown millions on star names, complex sets, international travel and special effects but the sum of the parts are greater thsn the whole.

The Mummy with BF snd RW was just so much more fun and a better movie.

Gingernaut · 12/06/2017 21:01

I preferred it, but it had it stupid moments.

Ffs OP can you put a spoiler alert in before you reveal the whole fucking plot.

You thought it crap other people may still want to see it.

Gingernaut · 12/06/2017 21:09

Sorry Blush

If anyone is expecting an 'action adventure' in the style of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' or even the previous 'The Mummy', then adjust your expectations.

It is a horror film. It's pretty gory in parts, with scenes involving spiders, rats and corpses.
