I loved the remake of Cinderella.

Beauty and the Beast was amazing. A bit dark in some places but I loved it.

Hmm, I was a bit disappointed. As others have said Emma Watson is not great. My 8yo (who to be fair is quite sensitive about films) wanted to leave as she found it too scary! I thought it was all a bit dark and too similar to the original. No where near as good as Cinderella imo

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 18/03/2017 21:15

I've never seen the original and really enjoyed the new one. I thought the first scenes with Belle wandering round the village were a bit clunky but it was pretty good after that. I found it quite moving in places but nowhere near enough for tears. The wolves were quite scary. Gaston was the star turn for me.

Just back from seeing it and me, my sister and Dd loved it. It was stunningly beautiful to watch and we just loved it all. It's been dd's favourite film since before she was 2. She's almost 15 now and still adores it. She even got to dance with the Beast last month and Disney World. She spent half of the film sobbing!

My sister is the same - it's always been their thing together. The soundtrack was fab too and the visuals fabulous.

At times it was like watching Hermione being Belle, but that's just because we watch HP so much.

Dd would have walked right back in and watched r all over again there and then.

Hulababy · 18/03/2017 21:19

Gellills - yes he forgot. It said at the beginning it was part of the enchantress' spell.

Hulababy · 18/03/2017 21:22

Dd loved Emma Watson as Belle, but she is already a massive HP fan anyway. And doesn't over analyse the plot etc /
Just takes it for what it is.

Surely part of the other moral of it is that it's okay to be different and stand up for what you believe in and want, to be yourself. Yes she is ridiculed at the start but it doesn't stop Her, and those who do it don't come out on top at the end.

GraceGrape · 18/03/2017 21:28

My 4yo loved it and was riveted. She does enjoy watching films though. My 6yo doesn't have such a good attention span and it was a bit too long for her, so I think it depends on the child whether they will enjoy it.

floatingfrog · 18/03/2017 21:51

5*s - it really was a visual feast. I would recommend. Absolutely fantastic! I thought Emma Watson was pretty good too.

Clayhead · 18/03/2017 21:59

Loved it. Thought Luke Evans was worth the price on his own Grin.

Year 7 DS1 is crushing on Emma Watson, so this was an unexpected requested film. We rocked up without pre-booked tickets today & it was completely sold out Shock Had to go to Kong: Skull Island instead. I can't decide which is worse. I'm not a fan of Hiddlestone, CGI scramble, Watson or musicals, but I love my son so will do my maternal duty.

pieceofpurplesky · 18/03/2017 22:17

I thought it was beautiful. BATB aid my favourite Disney film and this was a fabulous adaptation. The attention to detail, the homage to Disney films in the past and the back stories were great.
I studied fairy tales at university and have read and watched every version and variation of the story - I thought Emma Watson was great - the way she woke as the world around her expanded. I would go an watch it again in a heartbeat!

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 18/03/2017 22:22

Went to see it with my four year old yesterday and he absolutely loved it Blinky and wasn't scared. He isn't very sensitive though and really understands films are just actors dressed up.

Downyonder · 18/03/2017 22:23

I took my 6 yr old DD last night. I thought it was wonderful. Unfortunately she fell asleep just before the ballroom scene but that was because she had been to breakfast club and after school club. I let her sleep and watched it. I cried several times. The scenery was fabulous and all the characters were amazing. I especially liked Gaston's side kick . Lots of laughs. I didn't mind Emma Watson. Would go and watch again in a heartbeat x

These positive reviews are encouraging. Thank you.

PippaH74 · 19/03/2017 11:18

Went yesterday with kids, watched it in 3D and LOVED it. Emma Watson was fab.

Iamastonished · 19/03/2017 11:25

We went to the special Girl Guiding show with the Brownies and it went down a storm.

I can't believe that some posters on here are so critical. They must be really hard to please.

I wouldn't take a 4 year old to see it as parts of it are really dark and I agree with the PG rating. The Brownies in my care were 7 and 8 and were a little scared during the wolves part.

I thought it was really good. I haven't seen the original and had no preconceived ideas about it at all.

Falconhoof1 · 19/03/2017 16:11

Just saw it today and it's fab! Am I strange to have preferred the way the beast looked to the prince? 😂

TheExtraGuineaPig · 19/03/2017 16:18

I've just come back, absolutely loved it too. I disagree about the singing - it was decent for non-west end stars. Emma Watson is herself but suited the part and Cousin Matthew was surprisingly good. Gaston is wonderful. DS 7 and DS 9 were riveted and we all love the original. I am sure holes could be picked but we all had a great time.

DaisyQueen · 19/03/2017 16:24

I'm taking my 6 year old dd to see it next week. I'm so excited as it's my all time fave disney film. Currently wondering how many snacks I can fit in my handbag to save some money Grin

SalemSaberhagen · 19/03/2017 17:55

It was OK. I didn't like how far it deviated from the original at points, and ET's horrible accent was cringing. LE was a great Gaston though.

floatingfrog · 19/03/2017 18:00

Yes the worst bit was seeing that the teapot was Emma Thomson! I still can't believe how people can be so down on this film. It will be a classic whether you like it or not. The amount of skill to produce a film like this is almost unimaginable. I'd love to see some of you have a go! Grin

knittingwithnettles · 19/03/2017 21:00

Just seen it and it is brilliant. Liked the credits and said to ds (16) it was just like the end of Breaking Dawn 2, at which he said, oh that's because it is the same director Blush

Funnily enough I remember finding the end of the cartoon version much more awe inspiring and romantic though - for some reason it felt more powerful when the last rose petal dropped and he changed. Whereas the mysterious Agatha was a bit too clunky, organising everything. I wondered at one point whether she was going to turn out to be Maurice's recovered wife... Having said that, I liked the way the new one filled out the plot and the songs were better newly arranged.

knittingwithnettles · 19/03/2017 21:01

Ds 16 loved it, he said it was "charming" and "wonderful". He seems to have come over very sentimental he is now playing the Sound of Music on the piano. Definitely a teenage audience out there for this!

GraceGrape · 19/03/2017 21:03

Falcon I always thought the Beast was much better looking in the original too!

mogloveseggs · 19/03/2017 21:06

Loved it! Went today with family and the dgps tagged along too. A big hit with all of us.

Spadequeen · 19/03/2017 21:11

Was going to see this with dd2 but am concerned that some of you have said it's not as good as Cinderella. I thought cinderella was one of the worst films I've ever seen so may give this a miss
