Into The Wild

I watched this film yesterday and wanted to recommend it to those who haven't seen it or to ask what you thought of it if you had seen it.
The film moved me greatly. The message in it I believe is profound.
Chris McCandless truly lived more in his short life than many do in a much longer life.

I though the film was enjoyable (loved Eddie Vedder's soundtrack as well) but I really don't get the romanticised idolatry directed towards McCandless. He was ridiculously irresponsible and woefully unprepared (shooting a moose then wasting the entire thing because he didn't know how to preserve the meat).

He took on Alaska and she bitch slapped him. It's hard for me to see him as some kind of folk hero.

Glad you liked it. Yes the music was great too, in fact that's what I heard first, then looked into the film.
I didn't know anything about Chris McCandless before watching the film, so I don't know much about the romanticised idolatry but did notice people had videos on Youtube of themselves visiting the bus, which I though was odd.

I got the impression that he knew full well about the huge risk he was taking but was just compelled to take it anyway.

The moose, well, can you remember, the guy in a place where he worked gave him advice on preserving the meat, I think it was just too big a job to do on his own for the first time.

I love this film, one of my absolute favourites.

It was interesting but the main character was immature, selfish and irresponsible. Really awful to do that to his family. I'm nit sure how the director wanted him to come over.

Yes, must have been truly awful for his family, not knowing where he was for such a long time. I think he could have sent them a letter explaining things. He didn't want them coming after him though. Maybe it was to punish his parents for what they put him through, they
seemed very controlling amongst all the other abuse.
I think Sean Penn the Director did a fantastic job, although I haven't read the book, so don't know how closely he followed that.

I thought it was a great film. It moved me too, but I watched it at a time when I was vulnerable.
I have a feeling his sister also wrote a book about her experience.

I can understand that Wildernesstips, I found it very uplifting too, which helped with how I'm feeling.
I should imagine his sisters book is well worth a look.

Anyone that enjoyed this film may like the film Wild with Reese Witherspoon too. I seem to be watching a few of these types of films lately :), I have The Way with Martin Sheen and Emilio Estevez still to watch. Both these are based on true stories.

Yes, I have watched Wild too, and read the book - both very good. Not heard of the Martin Sheen one, will look it up.

I got around to watching The Way, another emotional one. Makes me feel like getting my old rucksack out and having a go!
