A friend has highly recommended this film and has nothing but praise for it. Anyone else watched?

Yes.

My advice would be to trust your friends recommendations for you rather than forum room strangers.

I thought film was good, friends of mine thought it was terrible so it is subjective and depends on what you like in films.

echt · 10/01/2017 08:47

I enjoyed it the first time, but not the second.

Fallonjamie · 10/01/2017 08:49

I enjoyed it twice. Other friends thought it was too long.

::waves at echt::

I disliked it first time round - went to Odeon's Screen Unseen preview screening and would have walked out if I wasn't hemmed in next to a wall. It's a compelling story, but there was far too much gory injury for me (others will differ of course) and it fails the Bechtel Test miserably.

fruityb · 10/01/2017 08:56

Loved it but you certainly have to be ready for it as it's heavy going!!

ChickenPoop · 10/01/2017 09:03

I didn't like it. Bored me.

Bluntness100 · 10/01/2017 09:05

I thought it was rather shit and so did everyone I know who watched it. I wouldn't recommend it.

Cinthy · 11/01/2017 10:01

I would watch it!!

LucyInTheSkyWithDonuts · 11/01/2017 10:03

It's very long and moody and rather graphic but I enjoyed it!

lokisglowstickofdestiny1 · 11/01/2017 10:04

It was beautifully filmed but I found it too implausible to the point of annoying. I wouldn't watch it again.

Newtssuitcase · 11/01/2017 10:06

I thought it was good. Quite violent in places though.

Chopchopbusybusy · 11/01/2017 10:08

I saw bits of it. Didn't hold my interest and it was way too unnecessarily violent.

backinthebox · 11/01/2017 10:11

You have to like Leonardo grunting through his beard a lot. And not in any kind of sexy way.

hellooscar · 11/01/2017 10:13

Feel asleep watching it was kinda boring and my partner said it was rubbish.
Everyone else we know that's watched it didn't think much of it either tbh.

Tinkletwinkle · 11/01/2017 10:14

I also was bored.

WorldsSmallestPatio · 11/01/2017 10:15

Do any animals get hurt in it? I dont watch animal peril Grin

lokisglowstickofdestiny1 · 11/01/2017 10:17

Worlds as far as I can remember a horse gets killed but not sure if any other animal casualties.

Pluto30 · 11/01/2017 10:33

Bears die... horses die too. There may be others.

I liked it. Wouldn't watch it again as there's no need to watch it more than once. But the person I saw it with didn't like it at all.

MiddleClassProblem · 11/01/2017 10:36

I'm having the same debate! Not sure it's naptime viewing

MaudOnceMore · 11/01/2017 10:37

Lots of animal peril, as I remember it. I only got through it by telling myself how beautiful the landscape was (as indeed it was).

qwerty232 · 11/01/2017 12:17

I thought it was overrated. Some great cinematography, and a wonderful opening continuous take. But ultimately it's a vapid and really quite boring male revenge fantasy that largely consists of Leonardo De Caprio crawling round on his elbows grunting and Tom Hardy overacting. For hours.

PuppyMonkey · 11/01/2017 12:19

I liked it a lot and think Tom Hardy steals the film. You should maybe just watch it OP and form your own opinion...

user1485349628 · 25/01/2017 13:14

It's a brilliant film, Tom Hardy too! Blush It's well worth a watch i'd say.

MaQueen · 03/02/2017 21:13

Dull. Overly long and dull. Did I mention it was dull...? Some nice footage of trees, I suppose...

Gave up very early on, trying to understand a single word Tom Hardy was saying. He might as well have been speaking Klingon.

Leonardo is either gurning, or grunting. Sometimes both at the same time. DH fell asleep halfway through...lucky bastard Hmm
