Took my 11 and 8 yo earlier this week. There is a very distressing situation at the beginning (how Pete came to be in the forest alone) that made all 3 of us well up, but it was otherwise OK. It's probably on a par with Bambi at that early point, although the worst of it was hinted at obliquely and may go over a 4 year old's head.

PotOfYoghurt · 03/09/2016 10:13

Sounds good, thanks!

It was very enjoyable & well dobe to be fair. However, I strongly suspect Pete's dragon is fluffy so that Disney can flog lots of plush toys.

JedRambosteen · 03/09/2016 10:21

Well done to be fair...

PotOfYoghurt · 03/09/2016 16:57

Well we went and he loved it!

Witchend · 04/09/2016 00:29

Out of interest, is it still a musical?

PotOfYoghurt · 04/09/2016 07:16

No, no songs. It does have a lovely score though.

Just shows OP - I would have said no. My 10 year old cried for 45 minutes Shock, uncontrollable sobbing, she loved it just found it very sad.

Not a musical Witched.

PotOfYoghurt · 04/09/2016 07:32

I think Jed had it and most of the sad bits went over his head- he knew what was happening and said 'poor Pete!' He was a little frightened halfway through and needed to hold hands for a moment, but most of the time tried to talk too loudly and commentate everything. 'Pete's a really good climber. I'm a really good climber too.' 'I think Pete has sticky spider hands like me, because he doesn't fall off the dragon. I wish I was Pete.'

No songs?!?! What the actual? Well fuck that then, I'm definately not going to see it now!

JedRambosteen · 04/09/2016 23:13

Yep, but it has Karl Urban in lumberjack attire and his brother (in the film) is also quite tasty. There are compensations. Wink

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 04/09/2016 23:17

I took my daughter who is nearly 4yo. With hindsight it wasn't the best choice,

I'd go and see Finding Dory instead.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 04/09/2016 23:20

Just realised he went and loved it! Well all's well that ends well.

I'm still answering questions about the boy's mummy and daddy and what happened at the beginning of the film. And the end. And the middle Hmm

myrtleWilson · 04/09/2016 23:23

No songs?! "There's room for everyone in this world...." And don't get me started on candle on the water...

CatherineDeB · 05/09/2016 06:41

Songs yes, musical, no.

PotOfYoghurt · 05/09/2016 09:21

It has quite a different story to the original, I think they wanted to completely rework it and just have the original title. Different time period, different background story.

Which in a way made me like it more because it feels like a completely different movie rather than a normal reboot.

Yeah, there wasn't really any bit that was just peachy, all aspects were troubling in some way or another. Fortunately my two are older & rolled with it.

firawla · 05/09/2016 18:31

I took mine 4(v nearly 5, he turned 5 now since watching),6 and 8 they all loved it and said it was their best movie of the summer, over finding dory and bfg. My youngest is very into dragons if that makes a difference though, but he didn't find it scary and really wants to watch it again
