Definitely overinvested. Just realised Horatio Cain from CSI has a small role in this for starters.

But also...

Drill Sgt Foley (Louis Gosset Jr) had the same job as Gibbs in NCIS a marine gunnery Sgt.

Also I've watched this film loads of times but only just realised the connection to Top Gun, Zack etc are doing the basic training then in Top Gun that's the same type of people qualified and experienced and then going on to be the absolute best Navy pilots.

Brilliant film. I only watched this for the first time about 12 months ago.

So sad about the friend :(
