ds who is nearly 8 really enjoyed it, he got up half way thru the film and did this funnt little penguin dance, think he must have forgot where he was he's normally quite shy, i cant tell you what its like cos his aunt and uncle took him, sorry.

anniebear · 20/12/2006 20:04

I went last night and my 5 year old DD was bored!!!!!

It is very good, but the jokes are often way over the kids heads and also the story line.....my DD wouldn't have understood it at all.

I thought it was a bit of a slow start whilst Mumbles Mum and Dad met, fell in love and had mumble but it didn't grab my DD's attention quick enough

Think she will have to stick to Lazy Town for a bit longer lol

worth you going though, I am sure your 9 year old will love it and probably your 6 year old also

JollyOldSaintNikkielas · 21/12/2006 21:44

Think it shouldhave been 2 films as its really 2 stories in one but I really enjoyed it and the 4 kids we took liked it and all ended up dancing (7,5,5,2.9)

Well me & DS(6) liked it. I loved the music & penguin dancing. The only bit to watch out for if you take little ones is the bit with the nasty seal (be ready for it with Mumble is by himself on a little iceberg) - it really made DS jump & was a very nasty seal - quite a scary sequence for kids

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 23/12/2006 19:53

we went today anf the kids all loved it. i like the underlying storyline about mumble being like he is, and thought it was lovely.

SherlockLGJ · 30/12/2006 20:13

Well that is two hours of my life, I will never get back.

What a crock.....

Whizzz · 30/12/2006 20:21

I think if you go expecting to see a twisty turny plot, great acting and witty dialogue - you'll be disappointed.
If you go to see cute dancing penguins - you'll love it

SherlockLGJ · 30/12/2006 20:22

I would have been grateful for any plot. TBH

Pablothelittleredfox · 30/12/2006 20:23

LGJ - yuou do make me larf!

FrostyTheSnowMarsLady · 30/12/2006 20:23

My DSis went to see it and keeps raving about it. She didn't go with any children. She said it was so funny watching Penguins dancing to songs that we grew up with. (She's in her mid 30s btw)

tissy · 30/12/2006 20:46

sherlock, it had a plot, but completely unbelievable...the bit where, by doing a little tapdance mumble manages to communicate to the humans that they are stealing the penguins' food... and then he magically appears back home to tell them all the glad tidings....

SherlockLGJ · 30/12/2006 20:48

They would be better off signing the Kyoto agreement.

I said to DH, I am glad they don't sell alcohol, I would have been blaming the wine.

galaxy · 30/12/2006 20:52

Glad I popped on - was going to take dd tomorrow but don't think I'll bother now.

Whizzz · 30/12/2006 20:53

Well I liked it !

tissy · 30/12/2006 20:54

galaxy- the penguins are VERY cute, just don't expect to be gripped by the plot

Frostythesurfmum · 30/12/2006 20:55

I was really disappointed. It was dd's first trip to the cinema and I had been looking forward to it. It was just OK.

Dsd (11) said it was OK but didn't really "get" her. What she meant by that was that it's not one of those films that you want to watch all over again as soon as it's finished.

DD (3.7) walked out of the cinema like a penguin and then danced her way back to the car.

Bekks · 30/12/2006 21:13

I thought the music was fab, but plot pretty rubbish and dd 3.8 not impressed, we left early and then were told that all the plot happened in that last 20 mins!

SherlockLGJ · 30/12/2006 21:30

Galaxy

If you are going to Festival Place, your judgment will be coloured as was ours by having to do the best part of a 30 mile round trip.

We need a 4 screen in town, not an 8 screen, FGS Festival Place is only a 10 screen.

galaxy · 30/12/2006 21:34

We were thinking of Festival Place - thought may be OK as is Sunday. Have you voiced your opinion on the development btw?

SherlockLGJ · 30/12/2006 21:35

More than once, am getting bored TBH.

galaxy · 30/12/2006 22:21

Can't understand why Woolmead is not being ripped down...so ugly!

sunnywong · 03/01/2007 08:52

in answer to the OP

utter, utter bag of shite

A criminal waste of electricity.

With all the techonolgy at the filmakers' disposal and the seemingly boundless realms of imagination to be scaled I am dismayed and disgusted that they could not break out of the trite platitudes of schmalz and produce such an ill-thought through and disjointedly referenced pile of shite.

That's Barry Norma/Kathy Burke's take on it.

Katherine · 04/01/2007 13:04

This film made me really really angry.
Apart from the fact that the singing drove me mad - they just didn't ever stop - I hated the fact that the end of the film was a blatent lie to our kids that man has sorted everything out and all is well now. Never mind the polar bears and what about the retreating ice so the penguins have to travel further and further from their breeding grounds to get to the fish. I'm not saying they should have put all that in a kids film but they didn't have to lie and say it was all happy ever after either.

And as for the message that they had to dance like circus puppies to merit the attention. It made me sick. If I had travelled to antarctica and climbed over a hill to be faced with thousands of penguins they wouldn't need to do a jig to impress me!

DD2 (3.5) fidgetted the whole way through too. I think it was the fact that although they were cute the screen didn't really change that much - just penguins and snow. Really really disappointed.

Clarinet60 · 14/01/2007 12:48

(I loved it)

The 'scenery' was magical, but then I love snow scenes and sea.
Kids loved it too.

(Takes all sorts, I suppose)
