James Bond - SPECTRE 12A?!

I saw this with my 12 & 16yos last night, and soooooo glad I didn't take my 10yo, even though I could have.

Genuinely surprised it's a 12A. Some very gory bits in it in my opinion Just wanted to let others know.

A great film though

Yes, DH went today and said a couple of bits he raised his eyebrow at the certificate (and that he made a point of telling me says something)

As long as that means when I go and see it some appalling family don't bring a small child who kicks my chair and talks all the way through

Posted too soon... I would rather have been in a kids film with kids.

I thought I would get used to the fly spray smell but no...I kept getting whafts....

Anyway, don't take your under 12yos IMO.

Are they usually 12s? I thought one was a bit racy. Casino Royale maybe? I can't remember.

I just searched for exactly this topic - according to my 9 yo DS, EVERYONE in y4 will have seen it in half term! I don't think so...

DP said the same and he's usually quite relaxed about film classifications

Just to say we went last night, I was disappointed.

I agree there was one scene I found very uncomfortable and a bit much.

took my 13Ds and 11 DD yesterday, and was also a bit surprised that it was 12A. Neither DC seemed traumatised, but I was a bit taken a back I suspect at the scene you found disturbing StillStayingClassy . I doubt many Y4s will have seen it.
And no - not a patch on Skyfall.

Dammit ds9 is desperate to see it (James Bond nuts!) I guess he'll be waiting a while.

dh and DS 13 saw it last night and DH thought the same about the graphic nature of some of it, then discovered his older son had taken his 8 year old to see it yesterday!!! and he's a teacher!

YY, a few kids in front of them that I thought were a bit young tbh. I thought at least 2 scenes were a bit much, frankly.

Really enjoyed it though, i have to say!

I went last night and was a tad disappointed too. They could have cut some of the 'smooching' scenes and I thought the 'baddie' could have been a better role. It just seemd a bit meh! Some scenes were good but on first viewing I'll give it a 7

Yes I was hiding behind my hands, I'm not good with gore.

We thought it was good, could have done without being quite so long.

Noo don't cut the smooch! And I loved the baddie - thought he was played really well. Thought the opening bit was great, that's always the best bit though.

I was disappointed too. Think Sam Mendes must have cut out all character development - the blonde woman went from thinking Bond was a twat who'd led the baddies to her, to telling him she loved him, in about 5 minutes flat!

And I'm sorry but there is no way in hell that the Monica Bellucci (sp?) character would just shag him - they'd barely said hello! Most women's response to nearly being murdered is not to drop their knickers. Daniel Craig is good looking but not that good looking!

I would also like accurate portrayal of what people look like when they get punched in the face by a big strong man. Lea Seydoux didn't have a mark on her when she got off that train!

Last week I was criticising Daniel Craig for being a mardy arse and being moody in interviews when he was paid a fuck tonne of money for that film. Now I see why he looks so embarrassed!

And yes, totally inappropriate for children. Eye gouging aside, I want my kids to not judge women by their portrayal in Spectre.

I liked Vesper Lynd - at least she had a storyline which didn't just involve shagging Bond!

I thought Christopher Waltz was weak, his Blofeld had no menace or danger about him whatsoever, imo .

Monica Bellucci needn't have got out of bed to film, she was in it for what, 5 minutes?

It was short on decent dialogue and good strong women, Vesper was a great Bond woman, shame she died.

Judi Dench added gravitas, something which was lacking in Spectre for the women, Moneypenny was underused.

Loved Q , as always.

I've had a family outing to see it on Monday with DC 13 & 12. We all enjoyed it for what it was .... A film/fictitious story. DC enjoyed the action effects and ds (12) hid his eyes at the kissing parts. I honestly think people are overthinking this - if you want a typical James Bond film go and see it, if not, don't

Overthinking what?

We're discussing the film.

Overthinking the correct portrayal of violence, gender stereotyping etc etc. The James Bond films are all the same formula - unrealistic storylines, men making women fall into their arms in a nanosecond of meeting them etc etc.

I agree about the underuse of Moneypenny (though she's well used in the product adverts), and I miss Judi! (I love her!)

By the end I was thinking it might be cool to have a female Bond.

Not necessarily a bad thing, it was just very much of its type.

Rubbish female characters normally really annoy me in films, but it didn't bother me in this - I don't watch James Bond for the progressive gender roles I was also a bit surprised by the classification, but 15 would be too high I think, so I'm not sure.

I think I was just disappointed because Bellucci had said there were strong female characters and I think they ended up on the cutting room floor! Sam Mendes was cutting until a week before premiere I think, which never bodes well for overall quality. The others were so good, I just expected more from this.
