I need a list of "must see" movies

DH away with work next week so once the babies are asleep at 6.30pm I fancy settling down with a movie each night with my dinner. As DH not here I can indulge without having to find something we would both like.

Films ive watched recently and enjoyed are
Shutter Island
Inception
Life of Pi
Bridesmaids (why did I wait so long!)
Hunger Games (the three that are out anyways)

Dont mind most genres except horror.

Also dont mind age of the movies - dont have to be current.

What would you suggest I must see?

Another vote for Pan's Labyrinth - amazing.

Eastern Promises - quite simply one of the best if not the best film I've ever seen. Gritty and violent, a great story - awesome.

+1 for 12 Years a Slave & Captain Phillips

I forgot to mention What Maisie Knew - one of the best films I have seen for ages. Also - Celeste and Jesse Forever.

If you want to laugh till you cry, try Death at a Funeral (the original, with Peter Dinklage).

Also, +1 for Gone Girl, Heat (one of the best movies of all time if you like action/suspense), and The Usual Suspects. I'd steer clear of Reservoir Dogs unless you're not bothered by violence. And Edge of Tomorrow was a great action film.

Liked Locke recently. It's on Netflix. Unusual film featuring nothing but a man driving in a car receiving phonecalls.

Personally, I believe that instead of collecting random "must see" lists, you should buy one or two movie reference books, which will not only provide titles, but a little bit about the movie and what makes is special - so you can make more informed choices.
