I need a list of "must see" movies

DH away with work next week so once the babies are asleep at 6.30pm I fancy settling down with a movie each night with my dinner. As DH not here I can indulge without having to find something we would both like.

Films ive watched recently and enjoyed are
Shutter Island
Inception
Life of Pi
Bridesmaids (why did I wait so long!)
Hunger Games (the three that are out anyways)

Dont mind most genres except horror.

Also dont mind age of the movies - dont have to be current.

What would you suggest I must see?

"Classic era Steve Martin, like The Jerk and the Man With Two Brains - oh and Planes Trains and Automobiles"

It's strange, but I've always thought I liked Steve Martin's films (seen most of the classic ones) until recently I realised that Planes Trains and Automobiles is probably the only one that I'd enjoy these days and that's mainly because of John Candy.

Muriel's Wedding? Away We Go was fantastic, I definitely agree with that one. A personal favourite of mine to watch on my own is Terms Of Endearment. Such a great script.

Oh Brother Where Art Thou.
Big Lebowski.
Bridesmaids (again)

BitOfFun · 16/06/2015 20:45

I'm going to each The Age Of Adaline tonight- it gets a good rating on IMDb. I shall report back.

*watch

Robstersgirl · 16/06/2015 20:50

Pans Labyrinth. I watched this by accident on Channel 4 one night. It's absolutely mesmerising. Absolute must see and I don't normally do subtitles!

CheesyDibbles · 16/06/2015 20:53

Robstersgirl have you seen a The Orphanage? Same director - very dark and sad, but I'm guessing if you enjoyed Pan's Labrynth, you will enjoy it!

SlippinJimmy · 16/06/2015 20:55

Do you mind violence? The kill bill films are amazing!

Robstersgirl · 16/06/2015 21:09

Cheesy - No but I will now! Thank you.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 16/06/2015 21:28

BitofFun I watched the age of Adaline the other day and thought it was a really beautiful film, never seen Blake Lively in anything and thought she suited the character so well.
Really recommend the film to anyone!

AlfieandAnnieRose · 16/06/2015 21:29

Oh, but it's only in cinema at the moment op.

CQ · 16/06/2015 21:33

Don't watch Cape Fear on your own!

I watched August, Osage County on a plane recently and it was fantastic. Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Benedict Cumberbatch and some other great character actors. One hell of a dysfunctional family and a brilliant little film that didn't really do much at the box office.

Oh, and Pride. Was laughing out loud on the plane. Hmm

AlfieandAnnieRose · 16/06/2015 21:41

If you like hunger games then I think you'll like Divergent and the follow up to it, Insurgent.
