^ yes! i saw a meme on tumblr of the shirtless malcolm saying , 'the biggest predator in Jurassic Park is ian malcolm * was howling!Grin

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 17/06/2015 10:54

Saw it in 3D last night and loved it. Would not have even considered taking DD(5) to it though. Far too much blood and gore and in your face dinosaurness.

The only thing I missed was the genuine awe I remember feeling when you first see all the dinosaurs going down to the lake in the first film. But that could only work the once anyway. Loved the first scene with the mossasaur (I take it that was the one in the pool?)

And was rooting for the raptors by the end - they were the real stars.

Great film.

          • SPOILERS * * * * *

          • SPOILERS * * * * *

Plotholes and other things that pissed me RIGHT OFF:

  1. Are we supposed to believe that they park couldn't remotely control the pod the kids were in?
  2. Radio interference at convenient times "Get There" which had never been mentioned or happened prior to critical moments
  3. Just HOW clever is that bloody Indominus-Rex? How in earth would it know that the humans are tracking it through body heat? How did it get the tracking module out of it's body? It's arms aren't long enough to reach round, and what, it bit it out? It was so clever it created a diversion? And then the only cours eof action, obvisously is to GO INSIDE THE PEN!!
  4. Dinosaurs can TALK TO EACH OTHER? So much so that (apparently) I-Rex tells the raptors to turn on their Alpha?
  5. How... HOW do they not have a proper evacuation plan??? HOW?!
  6. Where were the people during the big dino fight? The ferries hadn't arrived for some reason
  7. Did the mosasaurus just NEVER get full? Surely it's just a big croc? It got fed at least twice that day by the park... and it ate some of the pterosaur things... and then...what "still a bit hungry" I think I'll have ago at that i-rex Hmm
  8. DO you know what would be a good addition to the US army? a DINOSAUR!!!
  9. That battery on the Jeep would be 20 years old... how the actual fuck did it have any charge in it? Surely the tyres would be rotten away?
  10. What the fuck did the parents getting a divorce have to do with anything??
  11. What, you can TRAIN DINOSAURS??? Train them!! Find me a trained reptile... anywhere... in the world...ever. More than getting them to come to food please.
  12. what was the point of the romance between Owen and Claire?
  13. The i-rex's wavering sense of smell was annoying!
  14. what, the mososaurus can actually 'breach' the limits of it's enclousure to eat the i-rex? Health and SAFETY!!!!
  15. T-Rex just goes after the battle, doesn't think...hmm, tasty snack you humans will be?!

.... and breathe

I actually liked the film Grin

CMOTDibbler · 18/06/2015 10:40

I was lucky enough to go to a talk by the paleontologist who was the inspiration for the main character of the original book, and has been the scientific advisor on all the films - though he pointed out that he didn't get to decide on everything due to them being fictional films Grin

He talked about how in Jurassic World, the raptors are more like what the current theory is than in the first film - smaller, feathers, more colourful, but they were still constrained by the directors vision.

Also, the dinosaurs aren't reptiles - not cold blooded for a start - and are much closer to birds. Who can be trained.

fattymcfatfat · 18/06/2015 10:41

binary the only ones I can answer are, the I-rex is apparently part raptor which is how it supposedly turns blue and the others against Owen
and the mossassaur didn't breach the enclosure, it got broken in the battle between the rexes. which is how it was able to flop up and eat I-rex
the rest of it I have no idea but I want blue! Grin

00100001 · 18/06/2015 10:54

no, the mososaur was silly. The fence was just a normal fence, yet we saw it leaping five billion feet into the air?! So surely it could jump over the fence even if it was there?
SO they'll argue but it was an ELECTRIC fence - ah ha! so it would know not to go near it.

So why would the mossy then decide to try and jump out for the i-rex? I t would be like "shit.. never go near the edge, I'll get zapped" - just like cows/horses etc know not to go near the electric fence in a field...

Confused

as for the part Raptor - yes I get that bit, but not how they can actually communicate enough for this to happen:

I-Rex: Surpriiiise mother fuckerzzzz!!! RAWR!
Raptors: oh shiiiiiiit! That is a big animal!
I-Rex: Wait... you must be a bit like me... rawr?
Raptors: Dude, that fucking behemoth can TALK? Let's hear what it has to say!
I-Rex: Get me up to speed here little dudes, who the FUCK is that guy
Raptors: OH,him? We've been bred in captivity and that dude over there is our alpha, he feeds us, looks after us, and is generally da bomb, we do whatever he says coz we luffs him!
i-Rex: Nuh-uh, I'm the Alpha now. Kill him with your teeth. Kill it with paaaaiiiin
Raptors: KIIIILLLL HIIIIIM

fattymcfatfat · 18/06/2015 11:00

good point about mossassaur
erm I suppose I-rex it's a bit like lions?
but then I-rex would have to eat Owen, so, nope don't know Grin

00100001 · 18/06/2015 11:43

Right, the kids fixing the car.

Let's assume the batteries work, the tyres aren't rotten and the engine won't have seized up etc.

Zach know's how to fix this car because they helped Grandpa fix a Malibu once? Really? I helped my Dad build a shed once, now I know how to build a shed from trees!

Now, surely, it would have made more sense to have Zach be into fixing cars in the first few scenes of the movie? Perhaps replace the pointless girlfriend scene with him in a garage tinkering with a car? So, his skill in fixing cars makes sense when it comes to fixing the Jeep?

And Grey, mad keen on dinosaurs, but never needs to use his ridiculous in depth knowledge once..? Apart form to say "that's not a real dinosaur" near the end?
Surely, at some point during the pod scene and in the forest etc, he would be able to say something like "Oh, The diplotricersaurus has a brilliant sense of smell, or uses vibrations to sense movement" using that knowledge to escape danger... ANYTHING!

fattymcfatfat · 18/06/2015 11:54

Grin it's all nonsense. I really don't pay much attention to plot holes as I just want dinosaurs! I'm currently watching Godzilla with DD. there's another film that just is not plausible basically big dino lizard monster living in the ocean and no one knows where it is, it only comes out to feed on its prey, it's prey being other giant mutants that humans somehow don't know exist, and Godzilla doesn't see all those people and think hmm, they might taste good and then I won't have to wait for them to disturb my mutant buddies before I can eat.

oh, yes, it's nonsense - and I really enjoyed the film despite all of it Grin

fattymcfatfat · 18/06/2015 12:19

same! I would rather that than some vampire werewolf human threesome. (it's necrophilia/bestiality)

Angelto5 · 18/06/2015 16:52

when zach & grey fixed the jeep didn't they get the battery from a car that had been attacked by i-rex because I remember they found a damaged hard hat with blood on it? but obviously they didn't use the tyres off it too!

When the boys jumped into the river by the waterfall did any one think of predator - especially when they were crawling in the mud?

Also why when the i-rex escapes his enclosure & Owen hides under a car does he cut the fuel line(either the fuel line or water not completely sure???) & cover himself in fuel - to hide his body odour?Thought i-rex uses heat to sense things?

00100001 · 18/06/2015 17:43

OK, fine they used the attacked battery... i'll let hat one go :p

00100001 · 18/06/2015 17:48

OK CMOT: find me a group of birds of prey that can be trained... except to come to meat? Handlers can't 'train' things like hawks for example, they can only get them to come to food. They can't get them to come to them if they have no food. they just sit and ignore them until food is offered

00100001 · 18/06/2015 17:52

the sense of smell thing was inconsistent really :/

Angelto5 · 18/06/2015 18:31

I assumed that if the raptors had the intelligence to open doors & communicate it's possible to train them-but then I believe anything Grin

CMOTDibbler · 18/06/2015 18:56

I don't know in particular what birds of prey will do without food, since I've never had one to train, but I know that as a child I was able to train a chicken to stay on command, hop onto things, walk nicely on a lead and some other tricks (yes, I had a lot of time on my hands) without a food reward everytime. And one of my ducks played fetch with a stick nicely.

But it is a film. I don't believe in werewolves, vampires, or the Robert Downey Jr can put on a suit and fly, so am less bothered by dinosaur behaviour when even the initial premise is totally not possible (ie, they have tried extracting dna from fossilised mosquito and when blood cells were found in a dinosaur fossil, the dna was so massively degraded its never going to be reconstructable.).

Altering genetic expression of a chicken embryo to create a chickenosaurus is possible though Smile

00100001 · 19/06/2015 07:30

Whooo chickenosaurus!

Its all silly stuff, don't worry I'm not losing sleep over it or anything Grin

Davros · 20/06/2015 14:50

We saw it last night in 3D at the IMAX in Waterloo, THE best type of cinema for these films. It was amazing, loved every minute. Laughed like a drain at most deaths, especially Morgana, and felt very sad for lots of the "animals" (even though they're not real etc). Loved seeing Mr DNA, lots of refs to the original.

catswag · 20/06/2015 15:43

Wow loved it

Indantherene · 20/06/2015 18:32

Took my 8 yo and she hated it. She was bored stiff for the first half hour or so (anyone else think it took forever to actually get going?) then once the killing started she was scared and couldn't watch.

She liked the water creature though.
