What did people think. I haven't been to the cinema in ages and this film really looks good. trying to work out whether to see it.

It's on my list. Ds teen with autism so it should be interesting.

I think it looks really interesting but sadly don't think I can get to see it before next weejen6d, and doubt it will still be on then.

I saw the documentary 5 or 6 years ago which forms the basis of this film - fascinating.

I saw it last night, and having enjoyed the trailer found the film to be what I was expecting from the trailer. Some particularly good bits which seem spot on, but I didn't think the ending felt quite right; I didn't realise it was based on a documentary, so presumably the ending was factually correct (??), but it didn't seem consistent with the earlier characterisation.

Despite that though, a very good film, well worth watching.

We don't have a TV so didn't get to see documentary. Did it come to any conclusions on the best way to support children with this condition.

Woodhead · 26/03/2015 21:02

I don't think it really gave much help into how to support youngsters with ASD. It was very focused on a single special case, and I doubt there was much that could be generalised. (Except limitless patience and caring-there was a really bittersweet scene where the mum tried so hard to get a dinner order correct, and it was still wrong).

Some great mathmo moments though.

and that question was about the documentary. D'oh ignore.

yoyo1234 · 01/04/2015 13:55

I did get to see it. I thought it made for some very uncomfortable viewing at times. I had seen the documentary and some of the quotes from real (and vulnerable) children were almost lifted word for word (same director for both film and documentary). They also had some actors/actresses that even looked like the children in the documentary.
Ending was Hollywood gone made. ASD made much better by being in love and personality changes etc.
